OK,

Close, very close, but not to the Mk1 fronts bottom mount ..... its close to the Mk2 rear. But not an exact match.

However

Topmounts - PCD we have as 85mm, and 100mm on the Mk2 rear

The Mk2 rear is almost an exact match to theses measurements of the bottom socket and the overall lengths

A 55.7 vs 61mm
B 35.6 vs 25mm
C 43.9 vs 44mm

Lengths etc of full leg sizes are pretty much exactly the same.

I'll have to see if the factory would develop a kit but you guys maybe able to order a kit Mk1 front, Mk2 rear and do some ermm ... adjusting/customising if the factory are not keen to develop another kit for a limited market.

The 1500/cvcc market is likely to be bigger than the 1200.
Most US cars are 1500/cvcc from what I've seen.

Lads , can you chime up your cars., and your interest, please.

The data is lost in the mists of time.
sorry
Pete

To throw a little more confusion into the mix, the 75-77 CVCC cars shared struts with the 1200 cars. The 78/79 cars had the different suspension (the one in the pictures).

The CVCC cars were the only ones available in California due to emissions reasons from about '75 onwards. Since that's where they survived the most (no rust there!) That sounds like the largest market as far as the US goes.

Cheers Jonathan, that was my suspicion too, especially after this weekend when I've been able to get a 1200 and 1500[75-77] unit side-by-side.

I reckon that as long as CVCC owners check their rear units and ensure that they are NOT pinch-bolt fitting, they should be okay to order, but specify a slightly heavier spring.

78-79, there is obviously a market, numbers please to enable Kev to persuade the factory to produce.

As he has their ear, may I humbly suggest that cvcc owners order via the UK to ensure production occurs.

Thanks for everyone's help.
It just proves what can be achieved.
Still here for any questions, but we're there, I believe.

BC Coil Overs the final phase

Unread post by Thor »

Okay
For those wanting the news.
BC Racing UK are confident that the 1200 struts currently available will fit the 75 to 77 1500 / CVCC models.
I've been able to measure a UK 1500 rear leg directly against a 1200 leg.
I will post tomorrow what the spring rate is for the 4/5-door, calculated from the wire used on the 1500 leg in my possession. Choice will be down to the end-user, in consultation with BC Racing UK.

We are re-measuring [hopefully] the later ''pinch-bolt'' leg. My gut tells me it's too close to be different, if you get what I mean , but to assume at this stage would be stupid.
If the worst comes to the worst, we may need the factory to weld the locator plate in a different position.

Incidentally, wagon owners should be able to order just a pair of front legs, which would be complete with adjustable camber top plates and springs of choice. I just need confirmation of overall length [center of wheel or axle nut -to-arch] as they slot into the knuckle.
Or does someone know of another difference? Top mount?

Kev, I'll call you on Tuesday.

Wagon dimensions are the same as the CVCC sedan/hatch 76 on. Once again, the 75 is different, but in this case, just a little thought on assy will allow the install of the new units. Easiest, is go to 13" wheels and fix the camber and you are rolling!

Cheers, Bill.
Another option sorted for you guys.
78/79 rears are being corresponded about with the factory.
Factory advised that differences between 1200 and CVCC are minimal for earlier cars[through-hub bolts]. Mainly seems to be overall length issue, which is effectively irrelevant as they are adjustable for length anyway.

Just let us get the nod from the factory as they are checking dimensions at present.

Hope for news by the end of next week at the outside.
Pete
