What about swapping in a 5 speed vs. leaving in the 4 speed?Steph wrote:As an investment, I would get the head reconditioned and leave it at that, but if I could afford it, I'd pull out the engine, have the seals and gaskets replaced, paint the block and clean up the ancillaries, and put it all back together. Your car is so pristine and original, it would be shame to start swapping in non-original stuff IMO. What was it... the CVCC engine was one of the top 10 automotive innovations of the 20th century. Bob, your Civic is a part of automotive history.

Then I'd swap a 5-speed in a heart beat. It's still completely original in that case. As much as I love modified cars, there's something even more nostalgic about an original car. It's like you get transported back to another time looking at it. There's an elderly couple that drive a 60s Chrysler Valiant to the shops, and I always find myself marvelling at how original it is (it's been repainted). It's so obvious they've owned it since new.

The project continues - started the process of removing the engine. The plan is to have the engine rebuilt and swap in a 5 speed. While that fun stuff is removed, I'll be refinishing the engine bay to match the rest of the car.

I'm slowly learning this is going to be a painfully slow process.Steph wrote:So it was a productive day then...bob78cvcc wrote:Spent the day fighting with very old, very rusted downpipe nuts and bolts. Finally, broke through the rust and the downpipe is free of the manifold. to be continued ...
Sorry Bob, I couldn't resist :P

Hopefully, the rest of the teardown goes a little quicker
