Hi Scott, mostly at the bodyshop. I have a few items that still need to be done at home.

Took out the rear seat to examine the fuel filter and pump. I was shocked by what I found. There was a straight line filter :shock: which was quite junked up. Hopefully, that explains the constant clicking of the fuel pump and the stalling coming to a stop. The other shock was a purolater fuel pump just sitting there not mounted or supported in any way. :o :shock: To make matters worse, someone butchered the wires splicing the pump in. :evil:

Luckily, I had a spare fuel pump from my parts car. However, I can not find the spacers that go under the rubber grommets. Please let know if anyone has a set to spare.

Bob, got your message yesterday. According to my service manual, the filter is an inline one before the pump, then through the pump and off to the engine. If your filter was plugged, that may help with the stalling problem. Did you take the car for a test drive yet?

I think anything can be used as a spacer, nothing too special about it.

Was the wiring spliced pump side or harness side?

It was spliced harness side. I won't take it for a run until the sun comes out.

That pump was made to click all the time and was just internally regulated. there should be a 90* fuel filter under there with the original pump. The oem pump should just pump at times, not constantly.

That will be a nice change of pace as that purolator pump clicked a lot. BTW, the 78 Civic CVCC service manual show a metal spacer that resides under the rubber grommet. I do not see this spacer on the parts cd. Is there or isn't there a spacer?

no spacer I know of, but the pump did sit on a bracket that holds it upright, which it needs for proper operation. Maybe someone could post a picture?

Here's a scan from the manual. Is it an error or do I need to find a spacer?

you will need something to space that mount up to level the pump for operation. a stack of washers should work fine.

Thanks Bill - sort of what I thought.

I tried to start the car earlier today and was not getting any gas to the carburetor. Turns out that Volvo filter must be clogged up pretty good as no fuel was being pumped out of the top of it.

I replaced it with a filter for an 82-83 Civic and routed some new fuel lines to attach the new filter. The electic pump filled the filter to pressure and turned off. AND my baby fired right up!
