EF head is the same as the ED so there is no change of value there. Either use the 76 5 speed or the EK 82-83 5-speed... they are sorta at the ends of the spectrum, there are many more ratios in between, depending on the driving you want to do.

Bill, the car will be used mostly for leisurely type driving and opening up a little on the hwy. The car rides on 13in rims 175/70 tires. Which 5 speed would work best under this scenario? Thanks again for your help. Bob :)

The 76-79 civic 5-speeds are a good easy installatioin for what you like to do , with the stock engine. The 5th gear is great for Fwy cruising and the 4th will pull the hills when you get to them. There is a transmission chart on the site that lists all the ratios, ... I just can't find it right now  -someone will no doubt post it for you...

Salvador Dali rods

That motor must have travelled a fair distance to wear the bearings like that?

Wow! Any idea what was banging around in the cylinder to cause all that hammering damage? You got some work ahead of you, but it is all doable... Parts search in your future. Good luck and have fun!

Not sure what got smacked around in there. Boy, it sure left its marks. Going with the 1600 block and a different head. Don't want to bore the original block .20 over. :)

Going with the 1600 and bump the compression a little and you will have a great running little car that will run on pump gas.!

Bill, if I go with the 75 flat pistons to bump up compression, will the engine still run on regular or will it need premium gas? How much of a bump is it? :)
