Just a few suggestions instead of painting the old hardware are some new stainless fasteners with washers:

Here are some ideas for the fenders too (if you have done what I did and had to remove them for re-painting:

Yeah, I think painting hardware is a big no-no, as it smacks of cheap paint job where nothing was masked or unbolted. I went the other direction and polished all the stainless bolts and washers to give the impression of a complete restoration. I also used stainless acorn nuts on the strut mounts and I ground a few millimetres off the tops of the mount's studs so the nuts would torque down properly. When I took the car in to be painted I gave them a bunch of little plastic bags that were all numbered, and a map of where they all went, and I told them to remove all the fender bolts before painting, and use my hardware once it was done. It's those little attentions to detail that set a paint job apart from the more 'generic' versions. It also let the guys at the paint shop know what I was looking for, as in a perfect job with attention paid to every detail. Of course I had been planning my paint job for about 4 years, so I had really obsessed over all the details! :P

I know you paid a LOT of attention, and that's why I was surprised you were doing this, but if Honda did paint them, then that makes total sense to do the same. Sorry Bob, I should have realised you were doing it for a good reason. :oops:bob78cvcc wrote:I like the look of painted fender bolts (how Honda did it). Not to mention when you re-tighten them all the paint around them on the fenders ans washers cracks and flakes too.Kurt wrote:I prefer them painted too and did mine that way too when the car was painted.....unfortunately I had to take my fenders off and the sockets are none to kind to the painted stuff :?bob78cvcc wrote:I like the look of painted fender bolts (how Honda did it).
