Started to remove parts from my 77 parts car. The complete shifter assembly will get swapped over to my car in preparation for the 5 speed conversion. The shifter has been degreased, rust converted and primed

Hurricane? Irene is on its way to NJ. Doing some work in the garage. Finally got up the courage to tackle the windshield weatherstrip. I applied some sil-glide to the rubber about a week ago to help soften it up prior to removal of the old trim. I took some pics and wanted to know if the old trim was consistent with the way I should install the new trim? The measurements are not uniform, hence the question.
I cleaned out the trim channel. Once it's completely dry I plan on lubing the whole trim channel with the sil-glide prior to installing the new trim.
Does anyone have a good tool recommendation for installing the new trim?

Working on refinishing the shifter assembly. Looking for advice on what, if anything, I should do with the short rod that connects to the transmission. At the moment, it is clean and unpainted. Should I leave it that way or paint it the same color as the larger rod?

I found installing the Scot .007 chrome locking strips a highly frustrating experience. :twisted: I do not recommend this strip for a replacement unless your weatherseal is in very good condition.
The problems I encountered:
1- very wide and rigid locking strip as compared to the factory original
2- The profile of the strip is too tall for the corner trim pieces to go around properly. I'm not sure what is best way to solve this.
I'm thinking about triming down the high profile so the corner trim will fit over it properly. Any other good ideas?
Even though you probably can't tell from the pics the weatherseal is in pretty sad shape and putting the trim in made it even worse. :(
I'm ordering a replacement weatherseal. In the meantime, I'll use some black sealant to make the weatherseal look a little better.

Yes, trimming the lock bead is the way to go, I left mine square and did not put in the factory corners. I plan to tackle that later after the body work is done.
Just address the ends, not the whole lock bead so that the seal is still effective. You can make a pretty efficient trimmer with some firring strips and utility blades if you have to modify a long piece of trim like these.
