A south bay meet would be great just to B.S.
We should meet soon (have time off coming up) and bring pictures (you know of all the ones not on the road yet). How many would be interested? Where? When? Kick some idea's.

Willing to drive
Ramon (Gilroy) Milano

Hey Ramon! Still interested in a meet?

Quickrick and I are planning on crashing the Import Car Show at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds in August. We just started planning, so that's about as far as we've gotten.

All Honda freaks in the area (by that I mean North and South America) are invited to join in. The cameras will be whirring, and we might even pay to see the "showcars". Seriously, though, the time has come, doncha think? Bring the kids, your spare parts, and a thong for the bikini competition. Should be one hell of a good time.

Is the one in August an all years show? I can't remember. It'd be cool to actually display in the show. I'm also working on going to some of the "battle of the imports" and "north vs. south" drag race events this year.

How am I supposed to race you if your car is in the show, Charles?...(kidding) Maybe Rick will know if all years are welcome- I'm sure we'd all love to see a 1st gen. Civic on the green. (Besides, Charles would whip my ass like I was standing still.) Anybody out there familiar enough with the Fairgrounds to be able to suggest a place where we should meet? I vote parking lot for easier ogling of the cars and picture taking, but what do you guys think?

We should meet at a local burger joint or something like that, then caravan in. PARADE TIME!

A burger joint sounds cool first off. I can bring my stock cvcc with the funky stripes from the factory. Mine should road worthy by then. Changing out the auto for a five speed.
Count me in definitely.

The burger joint parade sounds like a good idea to me (but in case you hadn't noticed, I tend to agree with pretty much whatever Rick suggests. We share a similar form of insanity).

By the way, does that tranny swap suck as much as I've heard, Ramon? (Oh, and thanks for not loosing faith in the discussion board after it took us so long to answer your original post. Our responses may be slow, but at least our cars are fast!)

Don, does that mean you won't be bringing your Honda at all? The more the merrier, I always say.

It may be my inner sorrority girl trying to get out, but I've thought about making up T-shirts to sort of commemorate the event. Something with "Old Hondas never die... they just get faster!" or the like. They'll be cheap. Any interest?
(I am beginning to realize that I might just have too much time on my hands.)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By natcho (63.201.244.2) on Thursday, March 29, 2001 - 11:45 pm:

Oh yeah. Let me clarify that. (My apologies to any 1st gen. Civic driving sorrority girls that may be offended.)

Q: How many sorrority girls does it take to screw-in a light bulb?

A: Four. One to do it; and three to make a T-shirt about it.

On second thought, my appologies to all of you for that joke.

BENCH RACING, Natcho! Heck, I'm always faster when I retell the stories anyway.

Pleasanton fairgounds is pretty much right off the freeway. A good place to meet for the caravan idea is the Stoneridge mall. It's also right off the freeway, just one exit north (or two).

Natcho, I go to the regular Pleasanton swap meet a few times a year to look for early American iron (sorry) I know how cram-packed that place can be. I dont know if I want to go through all the hassle of trailering my Civic down, trying to unload etc. I figure I may be able to talk a few other Civic freaks down from the great white north (Ted R-U listening?) and just follow along in my PU with a few parts thrown in the back to sell/show.

I was getting a little nervous about the August thing because I had not really seen (anywhere) the exact date for the event, Iv'e just been counting on past years. Imagine! getting ourselves all worked up and excited for nothing!! So I went to the Alameda County Fairgrounds website and the Calender of events only shows up to July. So, lets keep our ears to the ground. If anyone finds the dates B-4 me feel free to post. Maybe some of the local car clubs already have that info. Also Sport Compact Car magazine has a calender section...

Sorry bout' that, Don. I'm a little gung-ho about this thing, as you may have guessed. I've got no problems with old American Iron, or skipping the hassle of trailering a car all the way down to Pleasanton. Please accept my apologies if I pushed a little too hard; I got caught up in the idea of a line of 1st gen. Civics streching off into the distance as far as the eye can see... I think the clinical term for my problem is MANIA. Anyway, I'll be fine once the sedatives kick in.

I don't mind, Its cool to be gung-ho about some things, things get done that way. I think its great that some people are getting serious about these little cars. I was beginning to think that this was a place made for people who just drove these cars cause all the 510's were taken. These are cool little cars, its time we started making the world take notice!

Need a date fellas. I might have my stock '78 "accessories" model back together by then. It'll have a few minor upgrades (powder coated chassis pieces, polished valve cover, and, by the way, I found a place that makes teflon tube, stainless steel braid brake lines that are DOT certified. He says the fittings were a b*tch. I'll know next week if they fit. $60 US for a full set!!! - Hey! All you performance junkies...you listenin': the company's name is TechnaFit in Torrance, CA. Ask for Trotter Stuart, and they won't need your lines since I already sent mine in and prototyped for them. I'll repost when I'm sure the custom lines fit.
Meanwhile, a Gen One Rally would be good. All the T-Shirt suggestions are good; hey! I'd collect the whole set.

That car was acctually built about 5 years ago by one of my closet friends who acctually got me into these cars back in the late 80's. He was tired of it and was going to sell it so I told my other friend who needed a comuter car about it. So he bought it. Its got a 1751 with a weber and 5spd in it. Mine is yellow and still in the garage waiting to be rewired from the dash foward my dog chewed off all the wires while the engine was out. Just finished changeing out the auto for a 5spd.

Wow, that T shirt idea just took off! My idea, put together as an x-mas present by my girlfriend, was to take some of the art from "How to Keep Your Honda Alive; a Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Complete Idiot" and blow it up to decal size. Ya'll familiar with the book? It's one of my personal favs- repair manual or not. When I started working on Hondas you better believe I needed it. Anyway, she took the book to Kinkos and made up a few shirts and they look great. (Cheap too!) Charles, maybe you and I should put our prototypes together? I don't have any way to post photos as yet, but I'll work on it. Meantime, I'll work on pinning down the actual date of the meet so folks like Mr. Burick can plan accordingly. Now if I could just get my Honda rolling...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Charles R. (64.170.157.19) on Sunday, April 22, 2001 - 11:01 pm:

Another idea I've got in mind is a calender. There's a few companies that can put together some very professional looking calenders with pictures the customer supplies. We have one in the shop that features local VW's, and another with photo's of a race car team we sponsor. Both look really good.

When and if I push this idea to the front burner, I'll be getting ahold of all who would be in it. More than likely I'd have to get copywright releases for the pictures used. I might also need higher resolution pictures for better image quality.

Natcho already insisted we make some up. They are 500 X 65 across the window computer cut vinyl lettering. They are free with any racecraft purchase or can be had for $10AU plus postage. They have only just been finished so any current orders will also recieve them (Mariusz, Natcho, 2low, Lawrence).

If anyone is feeling creative and can come up with a design that everyone likes we can get a sticker design like ROOTUS' and have them screen printed for only $1 a pop.

BTW Rootus, I like your design above, since we have had no affiliation with that particular vehicle it may be a little inappropriate though.

I'm goin to be "crashing" a Late model meet at Ed Levin park in Milpitas this Saturday the 28th.

It's a potluck, starts at around noon.

These are kids from the Hybrid Honda site, I've met a couple of them while at work. This will be the first time any of them have seen my white car though.

Should be fun, come along if you can make it.

Now that I think of it, I suppose I did kind of insist on a sticker. Maybe I should have insisted that you include a City Turbo clip with each brake purchase...(I'd put a smiley face in there if I had the patience to figure out how.) I honestly thought you were kidding about the "across the windscreen variety", Charles! What the heck, maybe it'll keep the sun out of my eyes. I'll take photos and post them once the beast is rolling.

I have this month's Sport Compact Car mag, but no list of show dates resides therein. I'll try giving the fairgrounds a call tomorrow- maybe they have the date. Rick, where did you say you heard about the car show again? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A couple of years ago, on a warm sunny Saturday afternoon, I was sitting at the IN-N-OUT Buger in Pleasanton. Stuffing my face with a double-double with grilled onions. Anyway... I started to notice that the parking lot was full of late model Honda's, Nissan's, Toyota's etc. all customized. I sez ("said" for Adrian's sake) "Hey Wassup?" He sez "Big Import car show at the fairgrounds"
...That's what I know.

I just got off the phone with the fairgrounds... She said that they aren't doing that show anymore.

I think we should all crash that pot-luck with Charles R. on Saturday.

It would be cool especially if more people show up. Is there any other thing going on in late summer? I have to wait till then, as I'm way to busy now. I will be down in Redwood city this weekend, no time for anything though I have to pick up some more parts that came with my car and move my brother out of his apartment.

OK, ya'll, lets just bite the bullet and do this thing. Goodguys may have dropped all there import events, but they still do a massive car show each summer. Granted, it's mostly all American Iron, but I personally don't mind that one bit. Besides, we're all truer to the spirit of hot rodding than any $100k trailor queen could ever be. I say, lets meet at the Pleasanton fairgrounds on the weekend of August 24th for the Goodguys car show. It may not be as fun to roll up on as an import show, but the last Goodguys show I went to had plenty of import cars worth looking at (in the parking lot, that is). Any body still interested?!?

I'll post all the necessary info (dates, times, cost of ticket to the show etc.) in a few days. Is it still important to everybody that we drive in to the show in one big convoy? If not, we could all just meet in the parking lot. Maybe somebody from the Pleasanton area can advise? I think the most important thing is that we all have a place to park together so Rick can start snapping pictures- whether it's a mall or a burger joint or the fairgrounds makes no difference one way or the other.

Guess I'd better get my butt in gear and make that t-shirt!

Just some ideas, we dont have to do the Thunder Hill thing. The schedule is listed on the website for the whole year, browse around and tell us what you want to see.

Your right! So since it would be cool to have a bunch of people show, what and when is good for all the other people, Like Justin, Travis, Brian, Ted, JMS. etc..... If more people make input there will be more people likley to show. The 510 guys meet every year for a show and swap. I think the Eary Civic people should do the same. It would be a bummer if only 3 people showed. Time is more of a issue for me. Sept., after the remodel work and the Civic is done ( Hopefully ) is best, but I'm in anytime or place mid August or???.

Well, since I decided to at least get the purple(soon to be black rattlecan) '77 running. I should make it in a Honda. If I don't get it running by then, I'll still show up, it'll just be in my brand spankin' new black 1.8T Wolfsburg Jetta(Bora, for those across the pond). This cars' cool, still wish I hadn't lost the white '74 though.....So, we got a date, how about a place?

Bad news for me. The company shipping my car from NY to AZ (I moved) says it will take up to a month to get there, and they arent picking it up from NY until 16 Aug. I know I posted 1 september, but what is good for everyone else? If I dont get the car I can still drive up there, but thats no fun, cuz our goal is to see as many 1st gens there as we can. Sorry about that.

OK, well there's Hot August Nights going on in Reno here pretty soon...Labor day is coming up. I say this:

1.) Weekend of August 11-12. I think hot Augus nights is this weekend.

2.) Weekend of September 1-2. Labor day. Something in the San Francisco Bay Area, probably like Hayward or MOuntain View, depending on where people would be coming from.

We've been talking about this for way too long. Let's finally get together and DO IT. :)

Maybe I'll have a batch of stickers done by then and anyone who shows up will get one!

It seems quit from the Northwesteners. Just a idea for maybe a Halloween party or something. Maybe we could meet somewhere in Southern Oregon. Split the mileage. I don't know of any exact location of the top of my head, but with some planning we could rent a cheap hall or find a big bar with a bigger parking lot???? Just an idea to accommodate everyone, good length for planning, and it seems that jms could make it then?

Count me in on the t's, calendar, and stickers when available.

OK, OK, I apologize for letting the ball drop; but I've been really busy lately.

I will be at the Goodguys show this Sunday, August 26, as close to 8am as possible. I understand the trepidation about showing up at an American car show, but it's the only thing going in the area for the rest of the summer. Don't worry, there will be plenty of imported iron in the parking lot. Trust me.

As an added bonus, I will have the following goodies on hand:

1.) The much anticipated, often ballyhooed first gen. Civic T-shirt. Multi-color design of the likes never seen before on this or any web site. A mere $15 each, $10 if you come to the show.

2.) Advance photos of the two civics I will be posting for sale on the board. One is a custom body work CVCC coupe that has been turned into a pick up; and the other is a 76' 1200 with 30k on the clock, a blown engine, and a replacement engine that just happens to be A GENUINE DUAL CARB JAPANESE RS MOTOR with less than 30k on it.

(Remember- show up at the Goodguys Show and you get first dibs...)

3.) Also for sale- two sets of 4x120 wheels, one set 12" 5 slot mags, and the other 14" imported Australian Mazda wheels of pseudo Panasport/Mag design. I might even bring my spare wagon brake set-up just for giggles.

The point of all these carrots is to get all of us off our butts and on to the street. I plan on sending everybody who posted an e-mail just as a reminder. Aren't you tired of all the talk? Lets just do the damn thing already!!!

Hope to see you all on Sunday!

Here's another point of order: where exactly should we meet? I'm guessing the parking lot, but I've never actually been to the Pleasanton fair grounds. Spose' I just look for a remote location with lots of room for us to park together and then wait for the other Civics to show up? Anybody with first-hand knowledge of the area is welcome to chime in.

For directions, go to the following site:

http://www.alamedacountyfair.com (there's a link in quickrick's post further up in this thread as well). Once you're there, hit the "find us" tab in the upper right hand corner and you'll get a printable map and written directions.

As for a time, I was planning on arriving as close to AM as possible, just to stake out some of the parking lot. I'll be there all day, but I won't leave the parking lot to go into the show until sometime in the afternoon- say am? Who knows? Once we start talking Hondas, I may not ever make it out of the parking lot.

That should about cover it. Let me know if you have any problems.

Oh, I'll be sure and make the t-shirt available to any and all who want it. International Honda nuts are always welcome!

Mike, John (natcho) and I were the only three to show up. It's too bad because it sure was cool to have all three of us parked right at the edge of the parking lot and having people come by to check out our rides. They both got some pictures (sadly, I had no camera) so maybe we'll see some posted here soon. Now that we've actually got together somewhat for a Bay Area meet, we need to do it again with all of us West coast guys.

I'm thinking sometime in the next couple months, before the weather turns to complete shit around here. :) Maybe we should all bomb together somewhere for Halloween and get together at one of the local Haunted House events that seem to be going on. I know you guys are out there...Rick, Ken, Ted (are you in the Bay area). I just think it'd be really cool to get all of us together.
