I am planing on looking for a 1st/2nd Gen civic. Before I just run out and grab the first one I see,I need to know what engine/tranny to look for.I want the engine that will/can provide me with the most hp/torque.I will be looking for any 1st Gen and up to an 82 2nd Gen becouse I do not like the square headlight look from 83-34.If any of you guys could tell me which engine or year I should look for that would be great! This board is a real help! Thanks for all the great info guys!

above all else I would look for a rust free shell with a good interior and go from there.
as you can see from this site there is a lot to chose from as far as motors/Trans etc that will fit, it really depends on what you want from the car.....

So true Ray. I just jumped in and i got burned. The body is the most important thing in my mind. I thought i was getting a good deal when i got a 76 and 79 CVCC for $500. Come to find out the 76 looked great outside and in, well untill i got them home. 76 was wrecked beyond belief and bondoed really well and the 79's engine was trash.
When you start looking take a small magnet and put it onto the car metal stick bondo no stick. Well thats my hard lesson learned. So i ended up with a 79 cvcc body a 76 dash and 2 worthless cvcc motors. still looking for a 1200
