I wired a simple switch between the negative terminal of the coil and the chassis which allows the engine to crank over but prevents it firing up. It worked as planned but now it seems like theres a fuel block or blocked carby or something, although there actually isn't . The motor hesitates and splutters at low revs then dies. Could it be to do with the electrics from the coil or something, I dont know too much about car electrical stuff, its just that it was running great before I put the kill switch in. I tried taking the switch off again but the problem remains. Any ideas anyone?

I'm no electronic wiz but you might try and replace the points/condeser and check the coil even. It would have been better to run a jumper wire from the selenoid activating wire on the starter in the cabin so you would get lights and such but nothing when turning the key to start. A push button one would suffice.

Thanks I'll try changing the points and condensor but how do you check the coil?

Just go all out an spend $20 on an Accel Super Stock coil. It bolts right in and you won't believe the performance gain!

Hey John those coils are $124 Aussie by the time they come from the states. I'm goona try the bosch gt40 for around $40 and see how it goes. Did you have to beef up any other electrics to cope with the accel's higher output?

interesting reading your kill switch problem on your E.B.2 civic we had same problem, changed the switch for a new one, ran 2. wires from coil pos &neg side of coil to switch earthed the switch so far so good, suspected as you did coil, fuel pump , fuel filter, condenser. none of these. it was doing exactly as you explained, real good at the traffic lights. try a new switch .
