I want to lower my suspension a little. Are any of you out there in Adelaide and know of someone or somewhere that lowers springs or has new lowered ones for civics. Also do I have to change shockers for lowered springs? Any info appreciated.

Go and see industrial springs on Port Rd. For about $75 a pair they will proffessionally and properly lower you springs by the desired amount (stick them in the oven and compress them). Don't go below 1.5 inches if you are using standard shocks. Only reuse shocks if they are in good condition.

Thanks Charles, I'll ckeck them out. Will lowering the springs like that increase the stiffness as well, would you recommend putting wagon springs in and lowering them? I've just forked out most of my cash for extractors so I cant spend much on suspension. I just want it a little less bouncy. It's all stock at the moment and I think one of the rear shocks are a little dodgy.

Is this place the greatist or what? I have learned more about 1st and 2nd gen civics with in a few weeks then I learned about Hondas in general in over a coarse of 1or 2 years when i hade my CRX Si. Any way I am still learning and doing so by asking questions, Charles can account to that. So here i go again, on a 81 1300 what would be the best way to lower the car? Cut out a coil or what. and if i cut a coil how bumpy will the ride get because its pretty stiff as it is. I just want it a little lower. And about sway bars how do i go about that?
Thanks everyone and Godspeed,
A.W.

No point in cuting your springs when you can get them made to whatever specs you want.

but i have no idea as to what specs i would want. I may some day do some autocross but it would mostley be for looks. But if i could get them made that would be better vecause i **HATE** the idea of cutting springs. Its just that it was much easier finding that sort of thing for my crx. Advice as to were i could get springs made would be great.
Thanks and Godspeed,
A.W.

Where to get springs made always depends on where you are.
I've always been a "hack the springs mercilessly" kind of guy. Now that I know better, I hunt the phone books for things I need. I wanted the lower the back of my wagon (leaf springs). A quick seach netted me a local shop that specialized in making leaf springs for heavy equipment. He could have made me new leafs as well. We chose to make lowering blocks and fab'd new "U" bolts to fit. Then I hacked the front springs. :)

As far as this site being the greatest? I learned more from this site in 12 months, than I did in 12 YEARS of modifying and racing my Civic.
I'm just irked that this site wasn't around 10 years ago. Would have saved a ton of time and money. :)

Thanks Richard. And all others that contribute.

Charles, by chance did you see my other post on rear coils for my Accord. Do you think early Civic rears would work, you said they are stiffer than the later (radial tire springs).

what are the measurements of a stock Civic rear spring? I want to get the rear end issue fixed. I'll try and post a picture of the car is it is now (just to have you guys make fun of me if nothing else).

The civic ones won't fit in accords, accord have larger coil diameter and they were heavier so they probably would have had heavier springs than the civic anyway.

the bugaboo is that the Tokico rear struts I got seem to be for a Civic the spring perch is ~10cm whereas my KYB rear struts (that I know are for an Accord) are about 16cm wide (I'm at work so I guessing at the size). I guess ideally I'd like to find something that will fit, and will give me a full range of travel, not too stiff and not too soft. Use will be RallyCross and some basic stage rallyies. No WRC but good forest roads and gravel mountain passes.
