So I have this video capture card in my computer and unfortunately I know more about the Honda than the PC. For the last few years I have had an in car camera and have footage of Laguna Seca in Monterey CA., Sears Point in Sonoma CA., Thunderhill in Willows CA.,as well as the local autocross track (we use a Kart track) and hillclimb. I have exterior shots of the local stuff and even made a video of the hillclimb with music and the works(outside shots are of a Pinto but the inside shots are from my car). The problem, I just don't think any of you would like to download a 555,000 KB file for 3min 14sec of video. and that's one of the small ones! I already know I should keep my frame size around 160x120 I think that's too small to look good, but I know file size is the stumbling block here. I'm also using 20fps because 15fps just doesn't look good at all with moving picture frames. I keep my sound quality pretty low but I also know that compared to the video part, the audio is just a small drop in the bucket. Please give me your ideas and assistance if you would like to see any of this stuff. Currently I have not compressed any of this footage, they are standard .AVI files I just don't know which CODEC's or settings to use

Charles,

The Intel Indeo codec works well if you don't have a MPEG codec. The size is about 12% of original and OK quality. MPEG is the best to use however in terms of quality/size ratio.

Yeah, but do you really want beta cassettes? I have an MPEG codec I just haven't tried to use it yet I was mostly curious about which were the most common for other people to use. I didn't wan't people to have to purchase a viewer of some sort. So MPEG's would be the place to start, huh?

Charles, aren't you the guy that placed in the autocross nationals? Some of our guys think they might have seen you there. They would have asked you quetions on my behalf.

Charles,

Yes, try MPEG first and test it on a friend's pc. Most clips on vtec.net are now MPEG.

Hey guys

Clancy, I moved since I posted this discusion and no longer have access to that email adress(at least I think, I can't seem to make the long distance connection and now the service has now been disconnected) I am now at a new site and the email is my moms'. If it's not too much trouble could your friend resend the letter to the new adress? Thanks for the help

No I'm not the guy at the nationals. The class I have been running in is not a recognized class. It's Open Street Prepared and the rules are basically; if it was once a production car and it is running on DOT legal tires it's legal. These are basically MOD cars that some people are running on the street. Engine swaps and super/turbocharging is common. This is the first year I have really been competitive in this class which is ironic because I have been running in A MOD this year in Oregon. the rules up there were more restrictive and my car wasn't legal(no passenger seat, no horn, wipers, turn signals, etc. etc.) the car IS legal for D MOD but there were no others, so A MOD it was (I don't think I would stand a chance at the nationals in D MOD it's the home of modified Lotus super sevens and elises on slicks). the local comp was a homebuilt about which I can only say that the driver improved greatly over the year, but I now have my first class championship and a top time of day and 6 single digit overall places.

And the highlight(or low depending on how you look at it) of the season, I got my car and I on the local news. They do a sports challenge thing and I invited them to come out and play. the total uncompressed video is about 130,000 KB. I'll see what I can do to make it smaller and make it and the others available to everyone
