I just finished putting the engine and transaxle back in my 78 Civic 1200 after major engine work. Now the transaxle is not engaging. The shifter seems to work O.K. but I can spin the wheels by hand just like in neutral no matter what gear it's in. I had the transaxle off the engine when it was out but didn't do anything to it besides cleaning the housing. It was working fine before. What did I do???

Make sure your axles are popped all the way in. They can look like they're in, but if the circlip isn't locked in, it will do just as you've described.
