i think my float valve may be mis adjusted. i adjusted it to the rebuild sheets specs, which are as follows: with bowl cover inverted and float seat just barely making contact with the needle valve, the distance between the end of the float and the bottom of the float bowl cover should be 11.1mm.
and with float lifted all the way up the distance between the float seat and the needle valve should be 1.3mm-1.7mm
i did that and took my time with it.
the reason i think that my float's mis adjusted is that going into gear, it bogs down alot and i have to give it way more gas than i should be. plus there is a hesitation here and there mainly after changing gears.
do you think this is a good diagnosis?
my pointless ingition looks kinda cheesy too, could this be part of it?
also, there is two vacum tubes that go the the vacum advance on my dizzy. both come from the insulator beneath the carb. one come out into a T from a tube that goes into the open manifold. one side i beleive goes to this vacum tingy on the carb to help with the throttle return and the other side goes the the distributor. does it make top or bottom tube on the vacum advance? the other line comes from a a hole in the insulator directly underneath some sort of valve. the thing thats kinda weird is that the other side of that tube is blocked off. there is also a tube that id next to the feul/air screw thats blockedoff and a tube coming from the naifold thats blocked off. looks like there was a tune going to a vacum thingy on the air cleaner, too, but is gone.
any info would be great
thanks for your time

i just received a 73-74 manuel from quikrick(thanks!!). the vacum line map raises a few questions. looks to me like i have the throttle opener valve(not to be cofused with the throttle valve) out of it completly(thought it was for the window washer). the solenoid valve isn't hooked up(i didn't even know it was there). the map also show the carbon canister haveing 3 outlets, but mine only has two. can those things fail and thats why they aren't being used now? also exccept for the hose from the air cleaner to the valve cover there are no hoses where there should be two more. the car did run fairly good save some hesitation.
any help would be great.

oh yeah, it did run good untill last night-ish when after working on it a bit it would start up and just die unless you gave it buttloads of gas. then drive it a bit and it'd die and not start for a little a while. wait a little while and it'd start up the just die again.

well, i sent my car to the shop. got it back to day and it runs, but is sluggish, has a brutal hesitation and the throttle sticks. the guy i guess did a tune up, hooked all the vacumn lines he could(solenoid valve-$45 honda- is gone), and messed with the carb abit(3 hours of shop work???). he said the sluggishness was from replacing the electronic ignition with points. said the hesitation was because my clutch was going out, but it does it in well into gear and it didn't do it near so bad a few days ago. how much does this solenoid valve really make a difference? how can you test valves like that and the throttle opener valve($260!!!!!!! honda)?
i'm getting a 30/32 weber from quikrick. i think i might ditch the stocky for a while(weber has way less vacumn tubes, no stupid external valves) and get a new electronic ignition. hope that'll fix the problem.

so no one has any ideas on what my cars problems might be? i can understand if no one wants to give bad advice, but this seems like a problem that someone else must have run into. no bad feelings, i just wanted to see what was up.
bTw, i did put the idle a little higher and turned the mix. screw counter clockwise a bit and it is running better. plus now if i clutch it just right it does have near as much the hesitation save around corners. have to drive like a grandma.

Hey David,
My guess is also the carb. It's been so long since I messed with a stocker, that I got lost in your post. Slap on the Weber and I'll bet most of your woes go away.

you should see the stock carb. everything is brand new inside. depending on what the weber(30/32 dvg) gets milage wise, i might want to throw it back on in the future for long trips. i might just sell it.
thanks for the help todd
