i'm thinking i should pick up a head gasket for my eb1 1200, just to be around for when its needed. i called honda and they want $65 for one. then i called a local import place and they had a stonebrand one for $11. are these good gaskets? what are other good quality gaskets around, ones to not get, etc. i know that if the gasket is smooth and silvery not get get it, because its make for an iron cast block. any info would be great.

The moly coated ones (smooth and silvery) were just about found on all Honda blocks and they were very good. The ER turbo or any really hipo honda motors can have a tendency for the bores to walk a little (open deck design). The moly coated gasket allows a little movement without losing seal. I have never had a factory honda gasket fail (unless there is a glaringly obvious problem).
However FELPRO (cheap gaskets) are actually very good and I have not had a problem with these.

not right discussion (close) but anyway...
how many teeth does the timing belt have to be off for the engine not to fire? also what is good/ and realistic cylinder compression (when doing a compression test)?

in my shop manuel it says compression is sopposed to be between 149 and 199. its best to to have all the cylanders as close as possible. my car is 175 all the way around.

ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i just got 80 - 60 - 40 - 60
which is funny cos i just put the head on this motor... with a new gasket... is there any stupid mistake that is easy to make when putting the head on, - also without the spark plugs water seems to shoot out of a few cyl. all bad!
