Scca did it again! I was looking through the Classification spec's for the 73-79 1.2 Civic and in 9-00 they added valve sizes to the sheet, problem is they added the wrong Maximum sizes at 34&30 effectively outlawing the eb3.
I e-mailed an advisor but they want proof (wonder what kind of proof they had if the first place to end up with this bone head mistake). In other words if you had a 78 1200 you would have to swap in a earlier engine to be legal as the line covers 73-79. In my case it outlaws the eb-3 legaly swaped in under the update backdate rule prior to 9-00
The factory repair manual does not list valve diameters for any of the eb engines. Anyone have any factory documentation for the eb-3 valve sizes they could copy and send me? I will pay for the costs.
PS for HP they managed to get the right valve sizes at 36-32, must have had a smarter rule maker?
If your an Scca member and may want to race IT some day. It wouldn't hurt to send an e-mail with your # your self as some of the rulings get dismissed for "lack of interest"

Don, I am currently racing an ITC 1979 Civic CVCC. Yes, that is correct, the CVCC. I also have a 1979 Civic 1200 sitting in my driveway just in case something happens to this one. The reason that I am racing this CVCC is that it was given to me so I am going to have some fun with it while I can. But back to the point in hand, I have in my hands with the car a factory shop manual and I am sure that it will give the proper valve sizes. Give me a couple of days and I will look for it and scan it and send to you if that info is in the book. Also, if you have any ideas on how to get more horsepower, better brakes, and a coil over suspension and still stay within the rules, I would like to chat more with you about those issues. My home email is attached to this email but if you want to email me at work it is as follows: PHarris@lurgipsi.com
hope to hear from you,
Phil

Hi Phil! I have two factory Honda manuals, One for the 73-77 1200 and the other for the 78 1200.
No dice as far as valve sizes. I do have some very solid info I photo copied to attach to the letter from the HP book "How to rebuild your Honda car engine" by Tom Wilson. I also found a mistake in the HP classification for the 1200 civic according to the GCR the block has to be iron. All the HP 1237 Civics are technical illegal until they change their mistake.
I will e-mail you a copy of the letter I will send to the comp board advisor. May be you can write one too? Two squeaky wheels get more attention than one!

Don Send me your email address. I have a book titled How to Rebuild your Honda Car Engine by Tom wilson that does refer to the larger valve sizes on the EB-3 head. The book is not a factory manual however. I can scan in the select page if you like. PJ

Hi, Pj
You can reach me by clicking on the user name on this post. On my last post (look up about three) I posted I already had the HP book and sent this info to SCCA. I was looking for some factory Honda material, just in case they are fussy.

Scca sent me a letter, the summary is I have enough info for the advisory board to forward it to the Comp board for discussion at the next meeting. 1/2 way there!
