My 79 1200 doors won't shut all the way. They will close, but won't completely latch all of the way. It looks like a small plastic piece has broken off. How do I fix this?

The '80's had a little plastic piece that covers the actual catch inside the latch assembly. If the '79's have it and that's the piece that seems to be broken, the dealer still has them.

They are an absolute pain to put in. But it can be done. I put a slit in the area around the mounting eyelet and finessed(forced?!)it into place without ever removing the latch from the door.

arr... i got an accord with a door that wont shut... its like you open the door, and then the mechanism doesn't return with letting go of the handle. and when it goes to close - donk. then i flick it with my finger. not worried though - don't drive this car - it just sits around. anyone want a cheap accord with good motor for parts? (body semi bad)

What I found that works is to fill up the little "indent" with something called JB weld. It's an Epoxy that hardens to be come as strong as steel (they claim). So what you do is mix the compound and fill in the area that that rubber will go into, use a heat gun to dry it, if not you'll have to leave your door open over night. Make sure that you only fill it so it's level or you door still won't close all the way. I've done that with a couple of my cars and works great. Good Luck
