I went to a yard today that has 2 1200s. A 74 trunk model, which i was quite stoked to see, and a '76 hatchback. The trunk model is not in bad shape, if you knew a little body work and got a hood.
The 74's front end looked identical to mine('73)and almost perfect except for the metal peice that the hood hinges too is a little crunched up. My problem is i don't really want to cut up a trunk model. The '76's front end is perfect, but the metal peice that the hood bolts to has a curve to it. Both mine and the '74's are straight. The hood on the trunk is beyond repair. The '76's hood looks the same and is perfect. Are there any differences in the hoods between those years? Are there any diffecences between the front ends themselves save that curved front peice? I can mix match all i want and get a complete front end for $150.

Also, how do you identify an RS tranny if the sticker is too faded.
And, the blue hatchback had a crest above the hatch handle that says stock on it. I've never seen this before. Does anyone know what this is?

I think i'm just gonna cut up the '74. It is in pretty bad shape, the windsheilds out and it's been raining alot. Anyone looking for a trunk lid for a trunk model. There is a little crunch in it, but very fixable.
I would like to know about that RS tranny idenfication question. Most yards would have would have no idea and i would like to pick one up in the next year.
i'll keep you posted on what transpires in the next 2 months(duh.)

David, we live in the USA no RS's in the wreckers here. well very, very unlikely. I think you would have a better chance at a Japanese engine and trans importer if they have anything that old.
Turn the input shaft and count the revolutions of the axle,a inner cv joint separated from the axle shaft would be the easiest.
