we have an EB2 which we have just replaced the waterpump on.
when we started the car up and let it idle the electric fan appears not to come on as the temp gauge rose to hot.the fan is OK.
Could this be something that we have done wrong or is it a faulty thermo switch.any thoughts on this matter would be a help.thanks.

Since you did just get done with the waterpump and the fan is fine, more inlikly it would be the Thermo switch.. those guy's go out pretty easily. I would check that... Hopefully will solve it for ya.

Just as a point of information, I ran across the Siskyous in a blizzard with my CVCC thermo nailed at the top, steam pouring out of the engine compartment. I figured if I can get to Ashland the car'll be dead and I'll bus/fly home. 22 miles later I made it to a Starbuck's, had a latte, put in the gallon of water and started right back on my trip. The car never missed a beat or even acted like it knew it was overheating. I think the need for a radiator/cooling systems is overrated; look at the vw. Okay, I'm not serious, but that incident sold me forever on my Civic CVCC.

For the longest time I had a serious overheating problem with my 79 civic. I'd seriously check the thermosat on top of the intake manifold. Its cheap and easy to replace. However on my car, that didn't even solve it. It ended up being that I had blown my head gasket, so I had change it. Man alive! the stupid thing was baked on to the block and head. It took me forever to get that thing clean. But anyways, overheating involves a number of things, the radiator, thermoswitch, fan, waterpump, thermostat, and head gasket. Check them all.
