I have a '77 CVCC with a 4 speed manual. My wife drove the car tonight, which had previously been just fine, and asked me why she had to "lift the stick to shift". I'll spare you the harsh words that followed, but sure enough, the stick now has about 4 inches of travel up and down. It's pitch black out, and I have the shroud over the boot, so I haven't seen a thing yet, but I'm wondering if anyone has any gut ideas. It appears to shift fine...as long as you lift it up to do it. Incidentally, I checked my paperwork... I bought it April 17, 1991, and have put 101,000 miles on it! Thanks for any advice...aside from not to let my wife drive it anymore! :-)

The rubber shifter mount has broken allowing the shifter to fall through the floor. Not uncommon. You'll need to get a new one.

Um, ok! What's that? I've gone here: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/majestichonda/carshome.d2w/report?inputstate=4&CarType=354&SystemNumber=394&SystemNumbernext=4110&SystemNumbernext4=4125&SystemNumber= to get an idea, and I don't see what that might be. Thanks again, Adrian!

That site seems to be busted at the moment. I'll have a look tomorrow.
I also shouldn't have said it's not uncommon. What I should have said is it's VERY common.
Just for your interest it's Honda part number 54313-634-000.

Adrian,

Where are you getting all of these wonderful exploded views of things? All the diagrams I have are of fairly poor quality and I'd like to get a set of diagrams for my 79.
