I just got back from watching my first autocross race. Cool! I'll race the next one they have in about a month. I'll have to use my '88 CRX, but I plan on bringing my '76 1200 just as soon as I get it running (dead for 9 months and counting...). I was surprised how few Hondas there were at the event. There were at least 10 VW's and only one Civic (88-91 si). I hope to be representing the First Gen community real soon. Now I need to start looking at the SCCA rules to find out what I can and cannot do to stay legal. Maybe the 4x100 conversion won't happen after all...
Good luck to everyone racing. Don't be shy on sharing some 1200 autocross secrets. I want to show the VW's and Datsuns that I can play too.

Unfortunately, the conversion would bump you all the way up to prepared or mod. Your best bet would be H stock. You are allowed to run 13" rims since there are no good tires for the 12's. Read the rules, then get some good race rubber and some high quality struts and leave the rest of the car stock. Remember, not many people know what is and isn't stock on these cars anymore (but you didn't hear that from me).
D street prepared would be an okay class if you know how to drive. You'd have to run against the 510's, and they're pretty fast.

Oh yea, No matter what class (or car) you do, you're going to have a blast.

Hey, Charles R, in the last season they moved the Street Prepared Civic 1200 to FSP, no more 510's

Really. I guess I should pay more attention to the rules, one of the hazards of being in a class without them(not many anyhow)for so long.
So what the heck would we run against now?

I was wrong about some 510's

Hey Don, they list our cars in both DP and FSP. What would make the difference between the two?
Honda Civic ( '73-'79) F Street Prepared
Honda Civic 1170 D Prepared
Honda Civic 1237 D Prepared

SP - Street Prepared - any wheel and race tire except slick, any carb setup (sometimes choke limits, etc), some engine work BUT STOCK CAM SHAFT! Just about any suspension in stock configuration allowed. Coil overs allowed. I think interior must remain for the most part unless you follow Improved Touring rules EXACTLY.
Prepared - about any engine mods (cams), any carbs, basically any suspension, Slicks, and 1st gen Civic is limited to 6 inch wide wheel max.
SP is fun, but prepared is a blast!
Unfortunately you really need to decide what your budget is and where you want to race first because you might end up with illegal rims and tires. Other than that, you can easily go Prepared from SP specs just by purchasing different tires.
I think some Miatas, CRXs, Spitfires, and Mini Coopers run D Prepared, so yes it is pretty competitive considering we start with about 52 HP!
Ohhh, but when you get your car right, they better watch out!

Prepared has a minimum weight too, used to be 1600lbs. That's why I didn't run it, my car weighs under 1500lbs. I thought it has carb restrictions as well.
