I have a 79 accord, and for some reason when the weather is warm it starts running like crap after awhile. The temperature gauge shows almost half way, so i do not think it is overheating...What happens is when it gets to this point on a warm day the idle goes from normal down to about 100, then back up again. And when i go to start it again i have to put my foot to the floor..Is this just fuel starvation or ignition?? Anyone know whats wrong?

Does it blow black smoke from the exhaust? It almost sounds like it's running too rich.

hmm no black smoke, but a friend of mine said the same kind of thing happened on his tractor; it was the choke. But i wonder, why would this only happen in hot weather?

Cold air will make an engine run a little leaner. The air is denser. I was just guessing it might have something to do with it. Your friend has a good guess as well, check to see that your choke is opening all the way.

I have considered this, and the only thing that puzzles me is that there is no black smoke; the exhaust looks fine. Could it still be running a little too rich? Also, the hose from the air cleaner to the grille for outside air is gone, and on a hot day it gets pretty hot under there..maybe that has something to do with it. Anyone think this might be the case here?

I just thought of something, maybe the carburator base is warping when it gets hot which would create vacuum leak. Does this sound like it might happen? In that case, where might I find a new carburator? I would like a downdraught weber at some point, but i do not know where to find one for a canadian 1.6 non cvcc. A new stock one from Honda is around 300$, so i might as well get a good carb.
