Is it possible to add an overhead console to a civic that did not have it originally?

No problem...on mine, the front mount sits on the upper inside frame rail, and the rear uses the original interior light location to mount it.The wiring plugs into your original plug...Justin

Aren't there two different versions of the overhead console? I pulled one from a '78 and it was pretty clear that it wasn't made to fit in my '76. I could have made it fit, but didn't want to cut up my car. There is a difference in the way it attaches near the dome light. Anyone want to verify this?

Tim, I sent you an email, then checked my interchange book. It shows cross compatibility of different parts/years for first gen. cars. It doesn't specifically show the overhead console, but what you'll see is either 75-79 compatibility for the most part, or 75-76 compatibile and 77-79 compatibility. It sounds like this is the second case, with 75-76 being slightly different from 77-79. Email/call me if you would about this; I have more literature (insurance "crash" sheets I can check,too)- scott in seattle

The REAL trick is to get the clock to light up with the headlights instead of with the map light. I've been told it can be done, but I never followed up on it. I really do like mine. I think the best part of mine is that it came out of a wagon, and I swear that dome light is twice as bright as the round one it replaced. I have it connected to my alarm and power door locks, and it really lights up the interior when I disarm it.

There is a small adaptor piece that you need for one of the consoles, it turns the bolt pattern 90 degrees. The front of both units mount the same.

If anyone has an overhead console to sell, please email me. I want to put it into my '78 cvcc hatch.
Finders fee if you can track one down!!!
Thanx. Scott

To correct the above... there are only two versions. the first fits early cars to either 76 or 77, the second fits maybe 77, but definitely 78 and 79. (this applies for Stateside)...I don't know about elsewhere.
