Well a little more than just EFI... A B16A (run with it's injection) should be sitting at home in my '79 soon.
My project is well underway... Now pretty much just waiting on my engine to be delivered. Yesterday I cut the front end off (via "Sawsall")from the fire wall forward. The now exposed four main "unibody chassis rails" will be home to either a custom mad box rail or tubular front end. This will give me much much more room under the hood. And yes, I know the front body work is gone. But in it's place over the engine will sit a once peice phiberglass front clip. So I pretty much just thought I would share where I am now. I will post some pictures and soon as I get my dang Digital camera to work right.
Oh and one quick question (Justin?), correct me if I am wrong the engine stabalizer bar (which conects to the fire wall, is not needed for newer honda engines, corret? I just wanted to freshin my memorry before I shave that mount front the fire wall.
So guys lemme know what you think... Any additional sujections.. inspirations, etc..?
Travis

Wow lots of spelling errors, sorry guys.

Where did you find a fiberglass front end? What does it include and how much does it cost? All that work for a car that will be crashed within a month after you get it on the road.

Wow, thanks for the nice words. The make is not known. I am picking it up from a guy, that got it from one one else. It may even be a one off... not to sure.

Travis, u can trim off the engine stabilizer mount and u might also have to trim the lip that runs along the top, in order to clear the intake. I'll send u some more pics of the vtec in the '78...

Cool... Yeah I have already shaved the lip... just wanted to make sure before I shave that mount. Thanks for the info..

Travis,
I am also in the process of dropping a D16Z6 into a '77, and can hopefully offer some help.
I can fire you some pics if you supply your e-mail.
Justin, thanks for all the help, I had to do some additional oil pan mods, but it looks like it's going to fit without doing the corssmember mods. I'll have a better idea next week.

Hey, can I get those pictures too?
I'm also working on a D-series swap into my '76 1200.
tharding@gonzaga.edu
Thanks!

Well my swap is going to be somewhat different being a B series engine.. but yeah the same princibles applie. Doing the full front custom rails will allow me to pretty much put the motor mounts where I need to as I asemble the "semi-frame"...
I thought about going with a ZC engine . (I can get one imported with 30K miles for $600USD) But the main problem I ran into is the lack of aftermarket parts for this engine, as it was only offered in JDM. There ares some parts around.. but for the B series, you name it, it is available. So I just kinda figured the extra work to fit it in will be worth it in the long run. (not to mention the 160hp stock). So we will see how things go! Keep the coments coming
P.S. I am more than willing (would be happy to) see any pictures of you (or friends) engine hybrids of any type.. I will even post them on my 1200 web site if you would like...
~Oh and Justin... I think it would be awsome to set-up a place for all you cars/info. If you don't have the time to do so... I would be happy to set-up a place for you.

I'm doing a D16A6 into a '78 hope some of these pics work:
I have more low-quality pics of mounts & stuff if anyone is interested (email me)

5 minutes to figure this out . . . I'm slow
There, now I can post pictures.

I am also considering a b-series swap into my 79 1200. I believe it would be the best way to go in the long run as 1200 parts get scarce and gas prices rise. Anyway, I've looked most o' the pics and info posted by you guys. I'm considering a B-series into a '79 1200. I believe that Justin says a custom oil pan and crossmember is needed? Why is this needed and how did you do it? Would you be able to replicate it? Also, is the wiring really that difficult, or is it just putting the harness to the engine and mounting the computer and upgrading the charging system? Also, how did you guys handle the high-pressure fuel line plumbing? Can the existing ports on the tank be used, or is custom work required? Here's an evil brainstorm for ya's , a '73 civic with a turbo GSR engine and the 4WD powertrain from those funky looking 4 wheel drive civics, painted krylon flat black with steel wheels,it would be the ultimate sleeper. Thanks, Tony T.

There was actually a 4x4?? I missed out on that conversation.... What model was that on? Was it ever brought anywhere near Europe?? Tell me, tell me...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
If you ever saw them you wouldn't think you missed out. Ha-Ha
They are ugly! They dont use the normal shell/body they came out 1984? here in the US, if I remember correctly. I think any power increase you would get from a engine swaped 4x4 would be eaten up with the extra weight and drag of the extra axle. If you wanted to go boonie bashing then it may be ok, but thats allot of extra work.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Yeah, those 4x4 civics have been hit w/ the ugly stick, it's true. And it would be heavier, but this engine hauls 2600 or so lb. integras around quite quickly, right??? I think it would be a good idea for a rally car. Tony T.

A B series engine will not bolt up to the civic 4wd trasnmission. The 4wd models had a D series motor. A ZC should bolt up. But the 4wd CRV has a B series...
The custom crossmember and oil pan are required because the engine is so big and it doesn't physically fit in the engine compartment without these mods. Also note that most of the discussion has been about D series motors. The B series is even bigger. Not trying to discourage, but it will likely take some serious work to get one of these under the hood. Good luck!

Anyone have pics and an explanation of theese mods? The 4x4 idea was only a thought, and I've heard bad things about the CRV 4x4 system anyway. After some measuring between my Integra and my civic I found out just how tight the fit is.. Thanks, Tony T.

Justin, thanks for the photo. That Wagon is sweet dude! Did you run into any clearance problems, other than mentioned? Also, Is the wagon engine bay larger than the 1200's?
What about the trans. clearence? It looked a little iffy when I measured it the other day. That is a B16, right? How much welding was involved, we aren't talking about neuro-surgery are we? What about the radiator, would a stock or 1500 radiator be sufficient? Does the stock shifter work or are you using something else? Can the stock clutch padal and cable assembly be used? Sorry for the long winded post, and once again, nice car dude!!!!! Tony T.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Tony the wagon has the same front end as the 1500 cvcc hatchback(i believe it's 3" longer)so there is a lot more clearance ...the tranny is from the integra aswell..it's a ZC not a B Series, I had to weld in all the mounts...(pretty easy in cvcc platform)with the 1200 there is a lot of cutting in order to get it to fit(have pics of the SOHC VTEC..lots of mods to put it in)with the wagon i had enough room to place the factory rad back in..with the 1200, we had to go with a rad from a VW(with the external filler tank)I went with the stock shifter and cut the shafts off of the integra and had them welded together. The stock clutch pedal assy. can be used. The only really expensive part i had was the custom built axles(original integra axles)shortned and then re-splined..it ran me around $900.00 cad. Good luck it's gonna be real TIGHT to get it in there!!!
Justin

All this talk of custom axles, custom crossmembers, and custom oil pans is enough to dissuade me from such a project. I would love to build such a car, but being a poor college student I can't afford that much custom work. It was a nice thought though. Maybe someday....Tony T.
