There's a guy in the newspaper that has a v-tech from his '87 Integra. I need to know how much horsepower it has, and if it will fit in either an '79 civic, '80 accord, or '81 civic. Thanks.

VTEC did not start until about 89 and that was only in Japan (JDM)... So if it is acually VTEC... it probably is not a stock engine to that car. So you would have to get more info.

It's a B16a1 if that helps. I can get the entire Integra for $500(It's wrecked, but engine still runs great.), If that would fit into an older Honda it would make a great sleeper.

Ok, The engine is not original to that car. But it is "the original VTEC DOHC" The engine puts out 160hp and 111ft/pounds. This is the same engine I am working to put into my 79 1200. From what I have heard it is even easyer to put into second gen civics (and even easyer in accords). As they are both a little big cars. And for $500 that is a really good deal.. The cheapest you can find them imported into the US is about $1,010. I wish i could come across a deal like you found It wll be a lot of work, but will give you gobs of power over stock.

If it's a first gen Integra, I'd say someone is confused. Why would someone sell a car with a swap already done for only 500$? My guess is it has the DOHC non VTEC that came originally in the car. Take someone with you to look at the car who knows Honda engines.

The seller was unaware of the engine swap. 160 HP? Best car to put it in? I have an '81 Civic I'm thinking of putting it into but am worried about space, I also have an '80 Accord but just did the engine swap. Think I'll keep on eye on the auction and bye something older. A mid seventy civic pumping out almost 200HP? Anyone in there pimped out civic would never recover from losing a street race against a thirty year old car.

Yep... and this is why I have been planning the same swap for quite some time. To put that engine into a 1200 civic is a lot of work though. We will see how it goes.. I will try and post some pictures of what my front "engine cage" layout will look like.

Here let me try to send a little animated image I just made... kinda showing the custom front end to fit the B16A engine.

No engine or Suspension is put in that pic. The silver up front represents a radiator. Just kinda an idea of the set-up. I plan to later have a little more detailed picture/layout. If anyone was wondering... the front end clip will be a solid fiberglass unit. Lemme know what you all think.

What mods must be made to fit the VTEC? Travis, please keep me posted on your engine swap. C_henly@hotmail.com Thanks.

TONS AND TONS OF MODS...it will fit with a lot of money and time..for example for the twin cam ZC motor in my wagon.... It cost me $800.00 cad just for the axles!!...if you want pics just e-mail me and i'll send some to you...

Justin, Congratulations!!! While we're on the topic, I just got engaged on thursday! Anyways, I'd love to see a picture of that parade of civics. So where are you getting married? Wouldn't it be a nice gesture if all of us civic guys around here got together to see you off on your "civic" honeymoon trip? By the way, Travis, did you get the front end off Justin? It looks cool, I've seen it, and was seriously thinking about buying it, but I can devote quite THAT much time to my little 'blue hamster'. The flares from it would look SWEET! Hope it works.

I mean I caN'T devote quite that much time. I'm already doing an engine and tranny swap.

Congrats to both of you. We Civic owners have very special women. Mine let me rebuild the motor in the family room. That way we could have more family time. She didn't even balk when I put the motor associated parts in the dishwasher for a final cleaning prior to assembally. Best of luck.

Yeah, If I spend several hours making her Civic look pretty (washing it) she doesn't mind so much when I spend several hours wrenching on mine!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Yeah I plan to pick up the front end from Justin... But still am a little stumped on the spacifics on how it looks... Although I have an idea... and the front of my civic has already been cut off... So there really is no turning back any-who.
