I have fited the tacho fom an fist gen accord to the instrument pod were the feul/temp was which is now down in the centre under radio were the clock might go, the question is- Is there already wires running for the tacho as i just added my own?
What colour are they/it?
P.S. i have many books on the civic and non seem to have this information, the tacho is in the key but the number does not appear on the diagram.

It's a blue wire. It can be found near the coil on the other side of the fire wall. I think it is also a loose wire on the interior side as well, you just have to dig around a bit.

Every time that you say tacho, I get hungry for a Taco

I have done this conversion on a 1978 1200. I must preface this by saying that the following applies to the 78-79 cars, as they shared everything interior-wise with their bigger brother CVCCs. Pre- 78 cars may vary. And now...
The blue wire is pre-bundled in the harness in the engine compartment next to the coil. I believe it connects to the negative post. On the interior side, the male-female plug for the tac is again already bundled into the wiring harness behind the guage cluster pod and should be a simple click-in connection. I would recommend using the gauges from a 1500 CVCC, ie tac and fuel/temp. These are a simple plug in to existing wiring. The center-mounted fuel-temp guages fit into a pre-existing hole in the dash - just peel away some of that wonderful faux-wood adhesive paper and you should see the plastic blank which was glued in place to block off the hole on the 1200 series cars. Overall, an easy upgrade and well worthwhile, maintaining a factory look.
Extra Credit: If you want to get really tricky, try making your own gauge faces while it is all apart. I used polystyrene sheets from a local hobby store, stencil numbers from the art supply store, and the original blue guage faces as templates. I now have killer black-numbered, white guage faces that are easily readable and get rave reviews.

You use the tach lead on the MSD box.
