EEwwww. Was there always a Valve cover on it? Or maybe no oil and running water with no antifreeze and the water got in, via broken head gasket.?

I'd have to agree with travis. I just gave away my engine to Roger in NJ. The engine I gave away had "milkshake" in it, which is a mix of water and oil. I suspected the head gasket. Mine wasn't rusted yet though.

Is that rust? Was the engine running before the cover was removed?

Darrel,

I cracked the engine open last weekend (I've been a bit busy). The head gasket appeared to be fine. The oil though..... I've seen milkshake before.... The loss of oil pressure at low rpm was due to a clogged screen at the pickup of the oil pump. Sand. Did your brother have any enemies? Anyhow, I cleaned it up. I put it in a kitty litter box with a gallon of gasoline and a turkey baster. Washed it down for a few hours. Hopefully its good to go.

I took the head off of Zippy's motor (the failed rebuild) nothing obvious. I took the advice of Charles and ran it at low rpm for about 10 hours. The compression was beautiful 175, 170, 180, 180. (wow cranking rpm, engine temp and butterfly position sure do change numbers, about 10%) So all was good and I took it for a drive. Go to 5K and POW, dipstick pops and oil flys. I have decided that my pistons are worn causing excessive space between the piston and cylinder and I am getting slap at high rpm. Reasonable?

I am still pumping along. If anyone knows of some used/spare/cheap oversized high compression pistons that I can mount on my 1300 rods please let me know.

Roger

Hey Roger!

I haven't done a thing to my car except rust control/prevention. So, What do you think was causing the water in oil? Another enemy? I don't think I have any. Hmm. As for the sand, I'm pretty sure I know where that came from...Mohave Dessert. I used to live in Lancaster, CA then the car was in Las Vegas for a while. Sand gets everywhere. I had a 1964 Buick that seemed to have huge amounts of sand under the valve cover.

Have fun,
Darrell

Darel,

I hate sand. I spent 3 wonderful weeks living on a boat in the US/BVI. SAND EVERYWHERE. Goes good with cornflakes. The sand stays crunchy even when the cereal is soggy.

Mabye there was a leak in the head gasket. I could of missed somthing I guess. I haven't examined the head closely yet.

Roger
