I'm going to start working on rebuilding my spare '79 EK1 motor to get some experience and to have a spare motor for the rally car. What is the best way to get the head and block completely cleaned, where should I be looking to find some place to "tank" the motor and then I guess Magniflux it to see if it is rebuildable? What sort of 'performance' options do I really have for this motor. would a custom cam really be an option or would that play havoc with the CVCC system. I guess I'll rebuild the stock carb because with the CVCC system I can't see any way around using the stock carb. I can still get a header from Pacesetter that fits the '79 (two exhaust port) head. (still listed on their site, FWIW) or I can just make my own custom header (or I think I can make one). or with the stock carb and cam am I going to notice any difference? what have you guys done to get more pep out of your EK1's? thanks Paul

how similar are the ES and the EK blocks? wondering if I could use an ES head and the FI system out of an '84 Accord SEi??

Use the entire motor and box. It slots in without too much of a problem. ES is a much tougher motor and has titanium composite head.

when you say ES are you talking about the 83 prelude twin carb motor? Will it work w/o smog controls? Isn't some kind o' slotted mount required to make it fit? I would consider one of those in my 1200, could I use a 2nd gen civic tranny w/ this motor?
