I'm not certain which years are which but I think the EB1 is for a '73, EB2 is '74-'77, and EB3 is '78-'79. EB1 is a bit smaller displacement and EB3 has larger, more desireable valves. Other codes are for later motors EJ is for 2nd gen civic EK is Accord?

My November 1974 1200 is powered by the EB2. My wiring harness is distinctly a 75.

Apparently the EB3 had the black plasic ends on the bumper as well as the engine changes, from what I know it has larger stainless valves and a wider bore...shorter stroke? I think it has the same displacement as the EB2 so I am asuming that the EB3 can rev higher?

While on the topic of EB* heads,
can someone tell me what the casting numbers are for those heads?

EB1/2/3 all have 76mm stroke. EB1 has 70mm bore, EB2/3 have 72mm bore. The difference between EB2 and 3 bottom ends are the pistons (very slightly dished in EB2, domed in EB3). Rev capability of the bottom end is the same. Yes, EB3 heads have bigger valves (and ports; may or may not be desirable depending on your application), but not as far as I know stainless from the factory...

You guys in the states may have got EB2s slightly earlier than us in Oz, which I find a bit surprising. A lot of you guys say you have EB2s in your 74 models, but are they the original engines? Over here the years are:
EB1: 73 (very rare), 74, 75
EB2: 76, 77
EB3: 78, 79

The heads tend not to have a lot of casting numbers on them, you just have to know what to look for.

All USA 74's had eb2's to my knowlege. Maybe it was to carry all the extra weight the USA models have to tote.

Hmmmm,...........

This may be a really stupid question, so bear with me here, OK? :)

The sticker on the underside of my 79 Civic's hood just says: "Engine-EB"

Does the 3 mean carb size? (ie. 2bbl / 3bbl)???
