Hi there…

I own a 1978 Honda Civic 1200 and need some information if you got a second.

My buddy and I off road rally race this car and man is it fun! We need to replace the springs/struts as they are shot. We were hoping to replace with newer model Accord units (or anything for that matter) for two reasons (1) we would like a higher spring rate to reduce body roll and bottoming out (2) we would like to change bolt pattern from 120X4 to 100X4 (in the front at least). If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

Please note that we are on a budget and are not in the market for anything beyond junkyard parts.

Any other improvement suggestions are appreciated as well.

Welcome to the crew! As for stiffening your suspension: Get a set of front springs from a Civic wagon of the same era. Put those on the front. Then take your front 1200 springs and put them on the back. It may not be perfect, but it is definitely stiffer and very cheap. As for your second question of converting to 4x100 I suggest looking in some old discussions on this board. The conversion is a bolt-on operation in the front and usually is associated with a brake upgrade. Use the "keyword search" on the left side of the screen. Good luck.

But don't worry to much, The front end conversion/upgrade is all from stuff you can find at the junk yard from old civic/accords. Exept for New front wheel bearing (unless I am forgetting something).
