Ok, I was gonna put it in the original space, but I have realised that there is way too much cutting involved. Does anyone have a box or something to put it in the space under the cig lighter? It sticks out a bit there, I think someone might have had something to make it fit there. Also, if I out it in a din box under the dash, won't the heat vents there heat it up a bit too much??

HELP! Please!

Thanks guys

Paul, if you don't want to cut up the dash (neither did I), do as I did and install it in the glovebox. There's alot of benefits. No theives even know its there, and you don't effect the stock look of the car. Just drill a hole out the back of the glove box, and run the wire out there. You'll have to get a short extension for the power though. There's several ways to secure it, I suggest strapping it to the roof of the glovebox with the metal braces found in install kits. When you're driving, its really not that far away to reach, and you'll be happy about doing very little work.

2low2go has a kit for sale that fits in the cubby hole under the heater area. It is designed for a stereo with knobs, but you can easily cut the plastic rectangle for the late model CD units. I will take a pic of mine tonight and post it tomorrow. It looks "Factory"

i put mine in the stock position ..
just a little bit of dremel-ing to accomodated ..
i also installed a removeable face player .. you hardly notice the mod at all really .. and, it's close to your fingertips, so it's not distracting
to adjust when driving ...
i was considering fabricating a mock faceplate the replicates the original plug that goes in the hole there (if you have no stock radio)
...
the deck slides in there on a bit of an angle ..
it's very discreet ..

i did get a kit from justen and insaled a removeable faceplate deck in the in the cubby under the heater. it looks good and you don't have to cut anything, it also adds one more original aftermarket honda part to your classic little roadster.

One if the knobs is for the passenger ejection seat! Yeah, Those knobs are for the A/C but I dumped the A/C when I got the car and put in a good 'ole glove box. I don't like the way it looked with the knobs out (ugly little holes) so I put them back in! The capped hole on the far right (next to the ciggarette lighter) is for the rear window defroster that came in later models.
Mo, thanks for the cover... check your email.

I'll check today to see how many kits i have left, I bought them from a dist. that closed down in Vancouver, They are produced by a company called "American International Autosound" I checked their website and the kit is still listed in their application guide, but not sure what they have in stock.

I also wanted to place my deck in this location but a bit north of that location. From my mechanical design background and knowledge of autocadd I am roughly 50% done with a aluminum bracket that would mount right over the top of the slot in which you doing. This design isn't so bulky and contains the contured corner the dash has and will place the deck where the AC, lighter, and rear defrost are; so not to interfere with the stick shift. Then I have designed a plack so to speak that fits across the entire dash where you will see an indent on the surface where the stock stereo was. Thus alowing me to move my rear defrost next to my choke, and the lighter to the rectangular cutout for the stock stereo. I will be powder coating this black with texture to match the rest of the dash. When the design is finished I will post the 3d rendered view of this. I am expecting the cost to come in at around $75. A little high, but I think it will be worth it.

Justin, I got it thanx. Quikrick how did you fit it so nice. It is designed for an older style stero with knobs. So how did ya cut it so straight. Fill me in on some installation ideas.

The stereo that I bought had a template. So I used it to mark the plastic. Then with a good box cutter blade, I scored the plastic lightly at first, I did that a few times before I bore down on it... a bit harder each time. Just take your time and be careful, count your fingers after each run. You could also drill a pilot hole near by, to get the blade started. The face plate of the stereo will cover up any little boo boos. So the cut out doesn't have to be perfect.
Silly me, I thought of taking pics of the before, during and after. :(

This little addition looks really sweet. I've been comtemplating something like this for my 75, but since the doors don't have factory speakers either I thought i'd build a nice carpeted box that would fit in the same spot and hold two 4 in speakers and my cd player. If I can get the carpet to match the floor it should end up looking like a factory or after market part. I don't think it will interfere with the heater since i'll move it out a little ways and it should mount well to the floor, they have the same type of console for the newer(92-2000)civic hatchbacks. I'll try to post some pics when it's done.
