I'm planning on getting a sweet, no-rust, honda 1978 honda civic 1200...and I want a sweet ass eninge in it that'll leave those damn rice rockets in my dust. So what kinda engine should I swap?
I know that an '87 CRX engine can fit in there somehow...any other sweet engines?
please e-mail me if ya want to...

You can put almost anything you want into it...all it takes is time and money for example:

78 hatchback with crx si 1.5
79 civic wagon with Integra ZC (1.6 twin cam)
78 hatchback with 93 civic si (1.6 sohc vtec)
76 convertible with city turbo II

and the list goes on and on!

i have a 79 im working on, do what they told me to do, look at the other threads about swaps.
most common are the stroker 1300 motors and early accord and prelude motors, from what ive read, they go in with minor mods to the mounts.
good luck

without killing yourself and your wallet the easiest and best bang for the buck is 1200 engine with 1335 crnk and rods goldwing pistons/ port polish head, headers, exhst, duel webber set up cam, 1980 wagon 5spd trani, you can find if you look hard enough most stuff used. good luck

See, here's the funny thing... Look into how much it's going to cost to do the 1335 crank, pistons, webers, etc. It's a hell of a lot of money. I found that an engine swap is cheaper in the long run. After seeing what it was going to cost to do the above mentioned setup, I decided to put in a d16a6 - partly for econonmic reasons. But I still would like to have a fire breathing EB someday. Oh, and yes, the engine swap takes a ton of time to do (still not done).

if you want a bit more power and cheaply, get ahold of a 2nd gen 80-83 1.3L ..if you're in canada that's an EN1 motor.
same mounts .. longer stroke, bigger pistons ..
a bi zippier .. better on hills
you can pick one up for a couple hundred bucks a the wrecker .. or better yet, buy an old 2nd gen rusted out civic with a great engine .. they are out there for sure .. then you have a spare tranny AND you can see it running ..
cheap cheap cheap ..

Ok, here is a question I have been wondering for the last year or so, but never bothered to ask. From experiance.. Being streetable.. Maybe not daily driven but at least streetable (can be a little on the illegal side)... What kinda power could you expect out of a EB1, 2, or 3 strocker motor with the works... Such as the set-up Mr. Anonymous #1 was talking about. I am guessing in the 115-120hp range? .... I am just curious. As it would be nice to follow up my B16A First gen with a "original" pocket rocket... and am just wondering if the effort would be worth it... and I know the less weight would help also.

Hey Travis,
125-140 is attainable with the stroker 1200. It isn't very streetable. The two I know of from personal experience are mine and Matts. I'm using the twin Dellortos and a huge cam. Mine doesn't idle very well and loads up if you let it sit at idle very long. Power comes on strong at about 3000 rpm and pulls strongly to about 8500.
Matts has the twin Webers (bigger than the Dellortos) so it idles nicely. However you have to rev it to 4000 rpm just to get it to take off. Anything below 4k is dead.
I'd suggest for a peppy street motor the same as above except for a downdraft Weber and a semi large cam. Web Cam #68 or Mugen R1. Probably about 100HP.
