My next project is cleaning my engine compartment. I always here that steam cleaning good, but is it the best? Engine degreasers seem to take 2-3 applications to do a good job. Does anybody have any other ideas to get rid of layers of built up dirt and oil?

Thanks,
ddechon

Super Clean Degreaser by Castrol. That stuff is miracle soap. Takes a couple of passes for really caked on stuff, but you will be amazed at the potency of this stuff. For the most part you can spray it on and hose it off and maybe use a solvent brush for any thick residue. A bottle should cost about $4 or so at yer local parts store. I swear by the stuff. Careful though it dulls paint and tarnishes aluminum.

I recommend it too. I use a generic brand called power clean that Auto Zone sells. As long as its purple. Clean your engine compartment then go to your local auto paint store and get something called rock guard. Its the stuff body shops spray on the lower half of new cars that give the paint that rough look. It is supposed to help with rock chips. Spray it by itself under the hood and it looks like black undercoating, but is hard as a rock and resists oil and gas.

i use stuff called purple power in a gallon jug i got at walmart and the like. you can use it full strength or dilute to use for other delicate jobs, but like it was stated above, this may discolor paint and aluminum. but it works great. just as the other products do also. i think i paid around $3 for the gallon. take care

Thanks

I'll probably buy the gallon from Wal-Mart since my wife always drags me there. :) I know Castrol Superclean is good stuff too. I used to remove gum from my step-mom's car upulstry. It worked great. I thought the gum went out the window, but it flew between my legs. After a long trip it was all over my pants and her seat.
Doh!
