Have any of you guys ordered this part. My old '74 is missing this part that measures approx 4 feet long and is about 1/2 inch wide. It's connected to the car, not the hatch, and sits ABOVE the main hatch seal. It directs rain to the sides. I've seen two different models, on that is "U" shapped and slides right on, and can be found on 1975 to 1979 1200's. The other (mine)slides ALONG a groove.

Please help. I'm desperate!

Ken sold me one, but is the wrong ("U") kind.

I've been to:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Civic&catcgry2=1973&catcgry3=3DR+**+1200&catcgry4=**4MT&catcgry5=TAILGATE

And I can't for the life of me figure out which part number I need. I've called and the guys on the other end they tell it's item number 5207 illustration number 18 2peices SEAL, TAILGATE MOLDING NO COLOR 9.00 6.74

Is this right? I don't think it's two parts. But can't tell if it's really part number 5214 illustration 25 1 piece LIP, TAILGATE SEAL NO COLOR 25.90 19.41

Please help if you have ANY knowledge about this, I sure could use your help. The rains here in the Pacific northwest have started to fall, and I'd like to get this one fixed. I wish to NOT tarp my car all winter simply because I can't locate this item.

Thanks. Ted

Hey Ted,
GOOD description. I think #18 are the pieces of rubber that protect the tailgate from being scratched be the chrome moulding. Notice the notches for the hinges on #25.

Do you want mine...

Item number 27 for the 78 civic should be the same $19.65
Check it out

I would love it, but must know which of the two styles offered.

The site lists two item numbers. From 1973 to 1977, the item is #5214. From 78 to 79, it's item nuber 6766.

The one I don't need (and already have one) top seal is a simple "U" that pushes straight on the single flange that is welded above the hatch hinge.

THE STYLE I NEED slides along a channel.

The only description I can think of uses typographical terms. The word "serif" describes a font which has small lines used to finish off a main stroke of a letter, like with the capital letter "T" in Times New Roman. Now imagine the letter "O" with small serifs on the bottom, sorta like the omega sign.

That is the shape I need.

Whew!

That IS the one that leaks in the earlier design.

Ted i checked the dealer here and they have it in stock (only 2 in canada) it's listed for a '74.

the part number is: 85-862-647-010
it's $35.00 each.

go to your local dealer and check the part number to see if it's the right one for you.

and let me know if you want me to pick them up.

Justin, is that piece about 4 feet long? It looks right. Are there notches where the hinges rub?

Justin, can you get the window track seals, door weatherstrip and the rear hatch seal(the big one that goes on the body) for a 79 civic cheap? If so, how much would it be, and what about shipping to G.A.? It might be a few months before I will get these, but I am definately looking for them. I tried hondaautomotiveparts.com, but they were expensive there. Thanks, Tony T.

JCWhitney has door and window seals. I don't think they are exacly the same, but they'll work the same. Maybe you can find the manufacturer and see if they make molding for other cars.
