My waterpump pulley started to make a grinding noise as if it had a bad bearing in it. It rapidly got worse, it squeaks now and I can see the pulley wobble when the motor is running. So does it have a bearing I can replace or do I need to put a new pulley on or a new waterpump in, any ideas? I looked at some diagrams and didnt see any bearings. Needless to say I cant drive it until I fix this. So far no antifreeze probs, leaks or overheating???

If you do wind up having to replace the part, just make sure you use a Honda pump from the dealer! Not that much more expensive, and infinitely more reliable than any other replacement pump.

I'd go with rebuilt pump from a local autoparts store. It should be around $30. I do believe that rebuilds are as good as new...except for carbs.

There are a few slightly different water pumps out there for the 1200. Some don't have a pulley attached, while others have a deeper turbine. Make sure you check that the turbine is not rubbing when you tighten things down.

Also, do not overtighten your pump belt as this is the number one cause of pump failure.

This is a 30 minute job.

Who said this was an easy job? I couldnt get at those damn bolts for anything. I had to take off the pulley, and the airpump. Then to top it off 1 out of the 4 bolt holes was stripped and I stripped another. So 2 out of 4-screwed, no pun intended. I guess I can try and put a longer bolt in and a nut on it because the holes go all the way through. Hope it works. Anyway I found a place that had the pump w/ pulley in stock for only $21. But would rather genuine Honda-Oh well.

Okay, Its been so long since I've seen a stock 1200, I forgot all about the air pump.

JMS, A good 'fix'for those stripped holes is to retap them for a 1/4 x20 sae bolt. It's just a little larger and you can get them in grade 8 if you wanted. (I do this on most of the bolt holes that will hold the distributor/thermostat housing to the head, They usually currode (?) and break off!)

Here's a waterpump on ebay, but I'm not sure if it'll fit. It fits 1975 civics and some preludes.

Here's another one.
