hey there all ..

here's the set up -
i just put on a set of rs carbs ..
(dual side draft keihins)
-an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
-carbs are jetted for a 1200,
motor is a 1335 ..

i get tons of goof in the upper revs (very nice)
but at idle i can't seem to get it running smoothly ..
lots of popping and flodding when i first try to give it gas ..

i'm not too familiar with these carbs, i'm sure there are pros amongst us ..
oh ya, i also need an air filter for it ..
can't get one here anywhere .. any thoughts on that as well?
what should i be doing to rectify this problem?
thanks
mo

I've got exactly the same problem at the moment. I completely pulled mine apart - except for one part, underneath the floats. Seems I should have, since there is a little screen in there that gets clogged.

As for filters, I went to a reusable filter place here in Sydney (Finer) and found one that fits ok (Nissan Patrol 4WD).

so perhaps my problem here is the lean adjustment screw ..
any thoughts?

Sounds to me like a vacuum leak to test that theory you could take a propane torchy thing (the small ones you can buy at Canadian tire) and blow propane gas with it down around the carbs (don't light the torch though just turn on the valve and hold it down around the carbs) if the idle goes up at anytime you have found a vacuum leak with this method , if you can understand my instructions, you can fairly easily pinpoint any vacuum leaks and fix them.

With propane, It works better if you hook a small vacuum hose into the end and release it in small spurts. With no air cleaners its going to be easy for the excess gas to go right into the carb. This will tell you if its lean but will make it hard to locate the leak without some care in application.

Did you place the fuel pressure regulator on it and set the pressure to around 1-2psi? RS carbs (like most motorcycle carbs) like to have minimum pressure on the needle/set. Anymore than a gravity feed will disturb them, especially at an idle.

Take care
Shawn

hey shawn ..
ya, the first thing i did was grab a mr. gasket adj. fuel pressure reggie .. worked like a charm until it malfunctioned .. took it back and bought a holley adj. ... the thing about the holley is that it is unmarked .. you have to go by feel. the one i got is a 1 to 4 psi and i have tried adjusting it to what i believe is around 1 ..
still, it seems off.
i suppose i should keep it as low as possible then up my idle ..
hope all's well shawn ..
mo
