best honda wheel i have found for a 1gen civic is a CRX wheel from an 84 through 87. the 88 up CRX wheels are thicker from the hub and are TOOOOO close to your chest, try to find an earlier civic or CRX wheel (84-87). IT BOLTS RIGHT IN, NO PROBLEM!!!!! i might be able to email you a photo of mine in my 78 1200.

all the ones I've tried fit the splined part, but just like PC said just check the depth of the dish. I like Acura ones. they're thicker

YES, errol mentioned one i forgot, the early Acura Inegra steering wheels will work good also, they are more "flat" like the early CRX wheels. you should be able to find the early CRX and Integra wheels easily!

Did they ever make em in leather? That would be nice.

I just used a grant wheel in mine, you can get alot of different styles, diameters and depths, and they look really cool, especially the 12" dia. one I have. It makes the car handle better, I think. Grant also makes hubs for our civics so you can put their wheels on.

look for some of the later acura's. They had a leather like covering. It's just some had the cruise control buttons there on the wheel

Yeah, I wish I was enough of a wizard to figure out how to make the steering wheel cruise stuff work on the earlier cars, that would be trick indeed.

How about 88-91? I found a few on ebay. Will they be to close?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By errol (64.12.107.184) on Monday, October 22, 2001 - 09:39 pm:

some will, some won't.. I know you don't want to hear that but I broke off a turn signal off a car I was selling (88 civic hatch) by putting on a wheel from another 91. Just outsmarted myself i guess.. It seemed OK untill I went to back the car up and spun the wheel and 'Crack'...
You don't have to stay with ole Honda either, Just bring a small screwdriver, 17,19 and 21mm deep socket, extension with you next time to the 'yard' and look for one that you like. Most Jap cars of that age have the same spline. And get shift knobs also! (mine's from a 300zx)

It may be from S600 or S800. Does it have the older style H logo on the horn button. See if it fits the 1200 cause I was wondering what one of those would look like on it.
ps. I know what those fiberglass fenders will fit, my 1200 te he.

That wooden wheel may have come off of a 5spd option! (like my 79) with gauge cluster! ask or get nosey and look around for older honda's. Everybody looks inside a car but not to many people look up! (for the overhead console!) I've found 2 that way!
Kelly, Use a heat gun and 'warm' up the outer fingers and lightly force them outwards.

Errol, is there any chance I could buy an overhead console from you?!?!?!?!?!

I ALSO have a 3 spoke 1st gen wooden steering wheel in great condition that I'm selling now, so maybe we could work out some sorta trade. But whatever the case I'll pay what it takes to get an overhead console!

just in case anybody was wanting to put on a Momo seering wheel, I've found that the Momo adaptor for an 88-92 Civic fits perfectly on my '81 Accord. I had to do a little bit of minor trimming of the plastic shielding on the column.

Once you get the Momo hub then you can put on pretty much any steering wheel that uses a 6 hole mounting (OMP, Momo, Sparco, Alpha, etc) I know Grant wheels use a completely different mounting system, but I think you could find one to fit your car.

I know Demon Tweeks is selling a Momo Humb mounting kit for about $45.

I'm currently running a Momo Marine (boat) steering wheel, it's finished in a white vinyl covering with a brushed aluminum center. I had to make a horn button because the Marine wheel center hole is just a little bit bigger than the standard Momo steering wheel so my horn button just flopped round and didn't work. I suspect if I get a hub ring it should fix the problem and look a bit more professonal.

Also, make sure you put the steering wheel on properly aligned, mine is currently 20deg. off and my turn signals don't always cancel automatically.

Paul, if it's for a first gen civic, you want to get the momo hub for the 84'-87' civic/crx, it's the right depth. The 88' and newer are deeper and it's alot harder to reach the turn signals/wipers.. just let everyone know...

I actually like having it deeper because when I'm racing and cranking the car through a series of fast corners I hate hitting the turn signals, wipers and horn.

I really is just a little bit longer of a stretch with your fingers. Now that I drive every day with it in the car, I don't mind it at all.

but true, it is taller than a Pre-88 model, I guess. I only found the one hub adapter, found that it fit and looked no further.

Hey guys.

There are lots of Honda steering wheels on ebay!
I know...I'm an ebay junky!

Ebay is like having a junk yard, hardware store, and antique store in your back yard.
