Okay, this isn't the most exciting topic, but I decided to weigh some parts that were off my '76 1200. I used a bathroom scale, so the numbers aren't exact.
Door (complete except door panel): 52 lb
Hood: 22 lb
Rear Hatch: about 27 lb
Front Bumper (complete except turn signal lights): 28 lb
Front Sway Bar: 5 lb
Front Seat: 28 lb
I weighed the rear seat last year and seem to remeber it being about 30 lb.
Has anyone weighed the dashboard?
Heater box?
I'm just looking for parts that can be lightened the most effectively. And no, I'm not going to pull off my bumpers and take out the heater... I'm just curious.

That is interesting... Wonder how hard it would be to construct fiberglass doors... Would be worth it.. especially with lexan windows, would probably drop about 30 pounds per door. Taking out so many items I don't see how my '79 1200 with a b16a can weigh much more then 1,500 - 1,600. Only two fiberglass racing seats, shaved bumpers.. small fiberglass dash, no back seat or really any interior for that matter. no more sound deadening... possibly all lexan if I can find a place to make me windows... full fiberglass front clip w/chrom-Ale front end. I am not a small guy but I bet I will off-set my weight plenty. I may even make a "giant" removable fiberglass roof.. set-up like one of those rag tops but made of fiberglass to retain some rigity.. Not to sure.. still trying to deside if it would be worth the work. As the car sits now totally stripped (front window, "rear end/wheels only). Two strong people can pick it up and carry it.

during my initial fix-up when i bought my 79, i had to replace the head gasket, water pump, hoses, etc. but i noticed the a/c compressor weighed a ton.
its off the car now because its wintery, but i kept all the parts so when summer comes around i will reinstall/recharge it.
i just keep thinking power to weight, power to weight, power to weight...

I've chunked the rear seat, basically to stop anyone from getting in the back, but I'm surprised that it weighs as much as a bumper..
I figured the bumpers were the easiest way to get rid of weight, but they have protected me from the average *&%^$## who just seem to not give and ram my car while parking. Also, they do help in an accident, so much that any modern car doesn't stand a chance when hitting these bumpers straight on... Hey, how do you shave a bumper??
I was thinking about just keeping the corners on.
I once read in a mag about these 5 guys having the same car, of which 4 had spent all their money on "tuning", while one just tried to lighten his car to the max. There was just one guy faster than the lightweight car, and he had spent a small fortune.. This story kind of convinced me about the nessecity of having less..
Less is more...wasn't that some art-movement??

Well my plan for shaving the Bumpers is to just filling the body indentations and such, to just continue the lines of the car, making it look as though no bumbers came on the car.
