Hi all....
I am thinking of removing the gravel pan under the bumper of my junk 73 to put onto my 79 because the one on it is damaged. The problem is that it's welded on and I want to remove it without cutting in to pieces......I can't tell for sure cause it's a little rusty, but it looks like there is a continous weld along the welded surface, where my 79's pan has the familiar spot-welds. I think I will just drill out the spot welds to take the 79 pan off, but how could I take care of the strips of weld on the 73? Or is it spot welded and I can't tell for the rust? I like the "flared" style of the 79 pan but would it interfere with an airdam/front spoiler?

I think you can get that piece from Honda (no-rust)

Hey Don

It's not too rusty to use, the only part with rust is the tab where it's welded. Nothing that a wire brush and some sandpaper won't fix. Majestic Honda wants $112 or somewhere around there. I'd like to use the one I have and save $$$ for the 4x100 conversion and 1751cc transplant I have planned soon. Any ideas on how to get it off of there? I don't know of another 1200 around here with a better pan on it. Tacking it back on isn't a prob. Thanks......Eric

If its welded across the seem then cutting the panel just behind the weld with a cut off wheel ( its a small abrasive disk attached to a air powered die grinder) will remove it.
Spot welds are best removed with drill bit cutters made specific for this use.
All this can be had off any tool truck ( Snapon - Mac etc)or Harbor Freight or similar stores may have what you need.
