A friend wants to give me a 1983 or 1986 prelude motor. Which one will fit into my 79 with the least amount of modification. They both came out of running cars.
What modifications will need to be done?

Are you in Canada?Do you know the engine codes?ie.EK EL ES ET BT ?Is your 79 a cvcc or 1200? Any E-series engine will work. All will require mods.If your 79 is a cvcc the EK or EL is your best bet.If it is a 1200 your best bet is an EN.The ES and ET have dual side draft carbs and the BT has PGM-FI(programmed fuel injection)

Thanks for your help
Yes I live in Calgary. The most I know is that is has dual side draft carbs. My 79 is not a cvcc. My choise is to do a total rebuild on my 1200 or put in this prelude motor.
What kind of mods am I looking at.

I just found out the engine is a Et but it is not complete. It is missing the tranny, distributor, and the altanator. As far as I know the car had 160,000k on it so I am not to sure how good of shape it is in.
So now have to decide what to do.
I have a EB2 with the block done good pistons new rings. I have new valves and springs for the head but no head work has been done. The crank on the EB2 is shot along with the Cam.
I have 2 EB3's with 5 speed tran. The one that is out of the car I only saw run for a short amount of time and did blow a little smoke.
The EB3 in the car leaks every where and blows blew but only has 110000k but sat for 13 years before I got it running.
Now I have this ET with the dual klien carbs.
Do you have any suggestions on what I should do with all these part to come up with a good engine.
Can I use the carbs on the EB2 or EB3?
I need alot of help from the masters on this.

For the time, effort and money you would spend to swap in an ET,I think you would be better off rebuilding an EB2 EB3 or EN1.A bored over EN1 with a header and a weber will give you about 100hp(the same as a stock ET).

Maybe with a custom built intake.

My mate had an ET in a eb1,and it fitted great but with only 10mm between the carbs and the firewall or less it used to run out of air above 4500 rpm as It could not seem to breathe properly
