What do you guys think of us having a North American civic meet in the future? Some place central. It would be nice to meet you people in person and see your cars. Maybe a weekend thing and a little camping or what ever. Lets hear some ideas. Personaly I don't think my civic will be done in only one year unless I win the lottery or something. Maybe in 2 years then us guys that are not done their cars will have something to work towards. How many civic guys are there? What would we expect for attendance? Lets hear what you have to say.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
i definitly agree. me and my fiance just purchased a house so money is going to be real tight for a while. but i would love to have a meet in the future, summertime maybe '03? i dont know.
zoin, where are you? im in virginia with a 79 1200.
later
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Summer '03 is great. Souix Falls South Dakota is rather central. Anybody ever been there? Are the Badlands nearby?
Roger
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Justin and I would be up for that. Just name the place and time.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
yea...my car would be alright by then...hopefully have my flared fenders on with a midngiht blue paintjob, my rims, and some street legal slicks like the A032R's or something...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
how about Toronto, Ontario, Canada ??
I assume everyone would want to make the shortest trip possible..... so...... show your interest, and your point of origin.
Once we have a list of people interested and where they are from , I will put some "pins on a map" and suggest the most central destination.
I am interested, but money would be tight until 2003

I like toronto...
I could visit family while I'm out there...
in gravenhurst!!

I'm in Corvallis Oregon.

hey all .. why not sturgis ??? .. the week of the harley gathering!!!!??
.. heee ..
ok .. how about the week before??
mo
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The week before still has thousands of bikers, maybe a little more time.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
A little ironic planning a Honda gathering on Harley Davidson turf......hehe I'm in GA but I would consider making the trip. If we were to all drive all of the people in one region could meet up and then make the long drive as a caravan.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
vancouver!!!
hehe
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm in California but willing to drive my little clunker!!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I,m in Philadelphia PA, Todd's in NC, and others live as far away as FL. I think we should pick somewhere equally inconvinent to all of us. Any place out west would simply be a west coast civic meet. Looks like the consensus is '03 that way everyone can get ready.
Roger
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
how about colorado?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I also think we should try to get a SCCA sponsor from whatever region we pick to help us out. I think it would be fun to do an auto-cross. Say three classes -stock motor -1200 blocks -other blocks.
Roger
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Colorado's great for the east coasters but the Canadians might want somthing a bit further north. Denver does however have a very active auto cross club.
Roger
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm in! Put my clunker down with Ramon's as the start of the Northern California Caravan.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Well I always wanted to see Yellowstone National Park.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Northern VA here, i may have my 77 finished by then. but this year, i am going to Niagra Falls Canada for the CRX meet..
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wow I posted this a few days ago and have not had the time to look at it till now. I guess this means there is some interest. 2003 Is just a year and a half away. I think i better quit my job and start working on my Honda full time. lol I am In Ontario
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Colorado sounds good, cool weather, lots of scenery, central location etc. Maybe we could do in in conjunction with an already planned event. The SCCA thing sounds good, its a blast watching these cars go around on 3 wheels. I will definately be ready! You seasiders & flatlanders beware, the elevation saps HP in a BIG way.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Well, if it is CO mabye we could meet during the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Best auto race in the world. Watched it live twice, back in the 80's. Camping is available on the mountain the night before the race and down lower before and after. Tickets though, are an issue. We will have to order well ahead of time and you will actually have to know how many people are going with you. But man is it a good race.
Roger
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
i wonder if we might get honda to sponsor us somehow!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Just a thought... Us Canadians going south is a killer because of the exchange rate. This is no problem if you have alot of cash to throw around.I for one don't. CO is a great place but Minnesota and South Dakota are more central if we end up haveing it in the US. As far as I know our east limit of the "Club" guys are located in Montreal so that may throw the map off centre. Go ahead lets hear some feedback. By the way Colarado is NOT central it is south west. We have to look at the peeple that are comming too. If we have guys that are from PEI in Canada that would put the map Centre but if they would not be attending then their location does not matter. I liked what Ed was saying about putting a pin map together and getting a central location for all. Hey Ed are "you on it"?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
yup....
keep letting me know who is interested...
where you are located....
what is your preferred destination....
I make a map !
Ed
p.s. I am near Toronto. Perhaps a CDN destination given the US dollar !!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm in Victoria BC I don't care were it is, as long as I get plenty of notice so I can save for it (that exchange rate is a killer alright)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I think you already know, but I'm in Vancouver...Anybody in the local Seattle area heading to the Hot Import Nights held on April 13th?
I'm gonna enter our two cars(Wagon and Convertible)
It would be cool if we could make a small Northwest meet on the same weekend!!
Justin

hi, I´m just about to buy a 78 cvcc in great shape as my first car. I´m in Baja, Mexico and (just a thought) Sand Diego (Central, I know) has an awesome autocross venue that´s run by scca. Anyway, the exchange rate could be an issue for me, but i'm cool with summer of 2003, 30 years after the north american introduction (isn´t it?)

Hey guys, a year and a half should be plenty of time for me and my 75 cvcc! Count me in, i'm in Portland, Or. I'd think closer to the border would be most central since we seem to be from all over right? Doesn't matter where, so long as I have the time to save and plan!
Mike

I'm intriged by the fact that '03 is the 30th anniversary of the Civic. Maybe Honda is already planning some kind of promotion (probably sales) for this occaision. Maybe Honda or Oscar Jackson or some other company that made their fame on these little jewels could sponser a meet or a series of regional meets in conjuntion with SCCA or NIRA etc. Also does any of our group work in marketing or promotions? It would probably be easier if we actually formed an organization/club so we would be more legit. dennis
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I don't have anything new to say I'm just kicking this back up to see if anyone else does! dennis
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, if the Civic is up and running in time, I'd definitely consider going to a meet...
Right now it's parked in my garage awaiting the extra time and money to install aan 1800 out of a mid 80's prelude....
hope this does come about!
Travis
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Seems I'm always involved in these things, eh Dennis?
I'm a marketing rookie, but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to try. What about something in conjunction with Honda's Ohio production plant? (If not the meet, then at least a stop?)
I have friends at Honda. I can talk to them about setting this up, but it can't be another thing where nobody shows. I know everybody is busy and that money is tight these days, but if I'm going to fire up the marketing/sponsorship machine, then I've got to have some real numbers to deal with. It's not a Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come" kind of thing, you know? We've got to make it clear that we're serious about this if we expect Honda to participate.
I suggest a dealership to dealership tour, (with stops at all out-of-the-way wrecking yards, of course) and a massive swap-meet for all the folks once we get to our final destination. Think of the opportunity to sell all that stuff that's rattling around in your garages to other like-minded collectors. We should also most definately endeavor to include the SCCA, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.
Let me know how the map is coming.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
What you are suggesting would be cool but WOW how much vacation do you have? lol
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
All of this sounds really cool to me. Natcho, what are you suggesting? Some sort of donation? And if so, what kind of figures are you thinking about? The formation of an organization sounds pretty good, the coalition of north american 1st gen civic owners? Or probably just "old civic" owners. All of it sounds great, and i'd feel honored to be a part of it. We need someone with the leadership skills to pull it all together, and i'm way to much of a "non-leader" type to be up for that sort of thing!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Let's not leave out the Southern Cross Clan! They may not make it to the meet but would still be interested in the event. Maybe the organization should be worldwide in scope. Worldwide Early Civic Owners Group. WECOG.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
VIRGINIA ALL THE WAY I jsut customed made a 1978 with a d16z6 in it..we got it runnin low 13's in the 1/4 mile..we still need to save our money a throw a gisser in it.
Northern virginia is perferable
Mike
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Mike, let's see some pics!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I don't have a ton of vacation time-- just a serious Honda habit.
I'm not suggesting the dealerships provide a cash donation, per se', just donuts in the waiting room, a fresh pot of coffee, and the key to the bathroom! (Although the muffin suggestion at the dealership I go to is usually pretty sweet, assuming the sales manager been by yet).
Seriously, though, sponsorship can defer a lot of the costs of putting something like this together, and including the dealers would be good for their sales. The idea is try to make this as viable a trip for as many folks as possible, and if Honda's participation accomplishes that goal then I'm willing to pull out as many "stops" as necessary. Plus, if this is an organized/sponsored event more people will be inclined to show up (not just from this discussion board).
As we used to say in the 80's, go big or go home!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
hey all ..
central-ish locations may be montana ? St. Louis Mo. is only about 55 hours from vancouver bc .. or how about this .. where is the largest honda dealership in north america??
if we can have a couple of options for the location in mind, maybe we can map out a few convoys from all directions .. make plan to hit honda dealerships all the way to the "site" of the bash .. perhaps a satellite link .. all our oz and NZ clan doing it at the same time ..who knows how big this could get???? computer and software and repeater companies could supply global tracking ..
maybe someone should call coca-cola and book us a commercial??!!!
haaa
or we could all meet in southern saskatchewan for a barn raising ..
mo

hey mike, im in richmond, va not to far from you. we should plan a get together of some kind. email me hal0tw0@aol.com
as far as the meet, there are a lot of atlantic coast people here. how about someplace like maryland? they have a racetrack. something close to the carolinas and virginians and even canadians.
just my thought
kelly
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Maryland's quite a ways from Oregon.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
hey, let's meet at my house!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
No-mine its closer!
Seriously, how can you guys plan a national meet when nobody wants to travel??? They all want it close to home. I think a few separate local meets may be in order.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Whos got the 77 cvcc with 17000 original miles?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Mo..... Ice Cream????
Justin
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
justin baby!!!
oh ya, hit me big time!
i'll take that cookie dough ice cream any day!
.. maybe, if y'all wanna drop over for a visit we can jump over to la casa and get chip-faced!
give me a call, we can figure it out ..
hey, how about we have the north american meet in las vegas? .. or crash some new car show -off convention!! if we're gonna do this, let' throw in a PR element!
or plan it to coincide with a monster truck meet?
now THAT would get headlines .. maybe we can set the challenge out to see who can boost up their truck enough to get a honda to drive under it!!!
weekly world news here we come !!
mo
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Don may have something here. Several regional meets that link up electronically might be more fun. If it is too big, you may not get to see everything or talk to everyone. Also a couple thousand miles in a small, noisy , modified suspension Civic would not do this 45 yr. old body much good! Maybe linking up with a race series or show circuit that involves a lot of newer Civics. We could call it the Heritage Tour, showing people where the passion originated. We could have our own sections & displays, show & shine's drag or autocrossing. This might even get suppliers interested again. Local dealers could get involved with new Civic's displayed, parts, etc.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Well when it all boils down Ed's map will show where Central is to us all. Just hope we get accurate responses on who will be comming. Dang I just hope I can have my car ready by then. Just a word of advice. Lets go on quality not size. If we try to make this thing a huge event that will take huge work and we will just be setting up for let down. I for one would be happy for a nice get together that is simple and easy to manage. If we can scoop some cool things into it then so be it. I just thought of something kinda cool. I live near Mosport race track. It would be awsome to get some time on the club road course. I will look into what would be involved if anyone is interested. We need to find out where is central for us before we realy do anything. My origional plan for this meet was so we all could get aquainted and see each others cars in person. Lets keep that the focus. Any suggestions are always appreaciated.
Hey Ed hows that map looking?
Has everyone posted their info?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I am interested
Where can I post my info? I really like the idea of having the meet in vegas, it seems pretty cool. Its close to the famous Bonneville salt flats and there should be several autocross/scca clubs out there. Wherever we decide on I will try to make it.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I agree on the qualty thing, no one is going to come see a bunch of civics that look like they were just towed out of the wreckers. Dealers wont want ugly hondas on thier lots. So everybody start fixin. Then after we actualy have some cars to be proud of (besides Justin ), then we can all argue about the meeting place. Discussing where to have a show when we have nothing to show is really pointless.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
What do you guys think about having a classic import auto show? Just here in Corvallis I've got my '76 Civic, and my friends have: '74 bug lowered 6" shaved handles, owner built interior and a 2.0L putting out about 130hp. A Mid '60's Volvo 120 4dr. with a very nice suspension set up and a very nicely built motor also. A Datsun 510 with a 240sx motor, lowered with panasports and a rollcage with a nicely finished interior. Actually all of the cars but mine have a nice interior/exterior.
Just thought it might be easier to justify if there were more people interested.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
My car certainly won't attract any outsiders to the hobby. I don't plan for it to either. I just want to go fast around the course. It will never be street legal again. As far as getting a significant number of cars that don't look like they were just rescued form the crusher, well, good luck. As it has been said before, if we were rich we'd be restoring somthing else. (Yes, I do love Zippy but I'd also love others if I could [like that little red-headed Corvette down the street]. I'll save my monogomy for my wife.) I mean, the cars I've seen are nice but they are not by any means "show quality". I am inclined to think that this event should be for us. We are all pipe dreamers or we would not be on this page. Lets not bite off more than we can chew.
Roger
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Ok, just trying to make some sense of this all.
So we are going to try to put a national meet together comprised of cars that are not appealing in the visual department to anyone but us. On top of that we want someone to provide a space for us along with some refreshments & promote (sponsor) the get together and their motivation for this would be that after looking at the fleet of clunkers in the corner their customers may want to buy a new car?? On top of this we expect people who don't have any money to fix up or paint their Civics to be able to afford to take more than a week off work to drive to and from the "central" meeting (well maybe not cause everyone wants it close to their house), plus have enough dough to pay for hotels, food, gas??
No I'm not being a smart a$$, read the posts from top to bottom and tell me that this is not the summary of what was posted.
Don't you think that maybe a few local friends assembling in a open parking lot, (I doubt more that five to ten people in each area will show) would be a more attainable plan? It could be done this spring or summer.

o.k. ...
i'll be in .. let's say, .. the wee town of YUMA COLORADO!! .. next, umm .. let's say .. August 1st. .. 2003
i'm comin, from vancouver, .. if anyone wants to meet me, then BRING IT ON !!!
mo
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
If you are going to Colorado at least go where it is nice. Take the car up to 12000plus feet and see how it runs then.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
ah, ya, lots of air up there!! i don't think i'll notice the SLIGHTEST bit of difference with the altitude and all ... ;]
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm there mo. Actually, I grew up in Denver and still have family there. I could help set things up. Hotel $$? How about camping? That'll save a bundle and the mtns are beautiful. What day of the week is Aug 1, 2003? Should the official meet date be in the middle of the week that way everyone has time to travel? Take 1 week off, 2-3 days to get there, 2-3 days camping, 2-3 days home. How about a nice big group campground in Rocky Mtn National Park. C'mon, who could argue with that. If somone wants a hotel then they could do that. Hotels are nearby. If this flies with anybody let me know. I can make the reservation in March, 2003. Travel schedules would seemingly prohibit an auto-x since they seem to be weekend things. If your car is nice enough to show then join a show club like Justin.
Roger

hey roger ..
no clue what day of the week aug 1st 2003 is, but i like your ideas. ..
the national park thing sounds like a great idea ..
as for this year, i just might take a long slow trip to south carolina mid-late july .. any body in on that one??
cheers,
mo

Got the perfect place.... MID-OHIO Sports Car Course during the Runoffs. Plenty of racing action, usually a couple of 1200's fighting in the fray, We could race the Mini Cooper guys around the parking lot ;) , maybe we could talk Adam Malley on giving us a hop-up seminar, and Honda is the main sponsor of the track.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
the first honda manufacturing plant in the US was in Ohio. This would tie in nice to our heritage. and Ohio does have plenty of races. this is sounding pretty good to me, but then there are the west coasters, darn, this is hard.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
well, hell ..
you know, up here in the great white north we have a LOT of space .. which means, it's a good 11 hour drive to the next MAJOR canadian city .. (at least on the west coast it is .. and no, prince george, kelowna and nelson are not major!! haa).. so, what's a measly 50-60 hours to ohio? that's like 3 trips to and from calgary!! taint NOTHING but an excuse to spend some quality time with my lil' red!!
note - i'll still be in colorado campin' with roger .. everyone is welcome.
hell, maybe i'll take the summer off and just go meet everyone anywhere!!
