Take a look at www.fuelstar.com Has anybody fitted one of these units to a civic? and if so does it do what they say?

In my opinion....

It sounds like a device that somebody would buy after everthing is perfect. Im not saying it works or doesn't work, but I think you should stick to "tried and true" performance mods or repairs, before buying a questionable item.

For example you might get similar or better performance increases by changing ignition, plugs, exhaust, carb...

It seems too pricy at $86.

I've run Unleaded in my 79 CVCC for the 5 years I've owned it...

almost at 200,000 miles...

Need I say more?

Brian

Mine isn't a CVCC it's a 74 EB1. I have heard before that they will run on unleaded but I want further convincing from Aussie civic owners.

Any further comments please

Jim

The unleaded problems come from other make cars with soft cast iron heads with no hard inserts. Since the 1200 head is alloy, the hard seats are in there from the start.

You should have no problems running it on unleaded, depending on what modifications you have you may need to use premium though. The Civics have always had hardened valve seats so you don't really have to worry about them wearing out and Japan has been using unleaded fuel since the mid seventies anyway.
Personally, I won't run mine on standard unleaded or lrp (lead replacement petrol). My puttering around car has a mild 1200, 9 or 10:1 compression (not sure exactly), with RS carbs on it so it's nothing exceptionally special and it pings its nuts off on lrp. I won't even try running it on standard unleaded. Shell's Optimax premium unleaded is the only stuff I've found that it doesn't ping on.

Don and Adrian are right again...virtually all aluminium heads have hardened valve seats out of the box... the alum. could not take the beating by itself.

Thanks everyone.

I'll put some Shell Optimax in and test it out.
