I am having problems getting any heat out of my engine and into the interior.
I have changed the thermostat and put a new valve on my heater core. It I let the car Idle for 15 to 20 minutes the guage will get about half way. As soon as I turn on the heater in the car, it starts out warm but in a few minutes it is blowing luke warm again. When I am driving it is far worce. I am lucky if my heat gauge moves up to the first notch.
Can someone help me so that I don't freeze all winter in calgary.

Maybe you can put cardboard in front of your radiator. It's bad for wind resistance but better for heat.
Maybe your heater core is blocked or you're not getting full coolant flow through the valve. Is your radiator coolant rusty?

The fluid looks nice and clean and I changed the valve first before trying to tackle the heater core.
The core seems to be ok, it does get quit warm but is hard to tell. Is it possible to be half pluged.
Is it normal for these civics to run cool in the winter. I have only had this a few months.

try a backwash...there might be some rust shavings stuck on the walls...a backwach would free them up...

Where did you get the heater core from?
Get one from Honda, I've had some new ones from the local auto parts place and they were bad.

The first job is to determine whether or not the engine is getting up to temp. It sounds as if your thermostat is opening early or stuck open. Your temp gage should consistantly stay at one spot after the car is warm. If it goes up and down considerably while driving and sitting it tends to indicate a problem (open thermostat). Take out the thermostat and see if it is open. If not then place it in hot water on the stove. The thermostat should have an opening temp posted on it. Say 160 farenhight. Measure the temp at which it opens and see if it checks. You likely have a bad thermostat. Just skip all the above and replace it. If your thermostat is working properly you may see if you can locate a thermostat with a higher opening temp, say 180 degrees.

Were on my guage should temp sit at?

all of mine sit around half.
I thought of another thing, DID you 'burp' the system by bleeding out the air from the head? It's the little 12mm nut with a hole. It's in the same housing as the thermostat.

i put a 190 thermostat in mine to no avail, after testing for all other possible flaws. the cardboard in front of the radiator works in cold weather.

I remember going to get liquer store (to get milk of course) and when I got out, the car would have to warm up again. I always thought that these cars couldn't hold heat.

I've done all that has been suggested except for having an original equipment thermostat. If you think that this will make the difference I'll try anything. Its darn Cold in calgary sometimes.

I have noticed on all the cars I have had when I put a center temp gauge it always registers lower than the original in the pod. Mine registers in the bottom 25% always (I have my fan wired direct to ignition). I also get good heat in the mornings. It has been in the 40 to 50's lately. I would replace the thermostat 180% and run block on the front 30% of the radiator if in really cold weather.
