I installed a 1983 EK1 with 5 speed into my 79 Civic CVCC. Unfortunately I can't get it to start. I have spark at the coil, dizzy, and spark plugs. I have fuel to the carb also. The car turns over like crazy but will not start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I used the carb from my 79 CVCC which eliminated the need for all the smog equipment that was on the 83. The motor and trans were completely rebuilt. I hooked everything back up the way it was before. The only difference is I used the dizzy from the 83 because it has electronic ignition instead of points. At first I thought the problem might be that I did not have it wired correctly. But I have spark, so that should not be the case. HELP!

Before any help is performed, we'll need to see detailed pictures!
Just kidding.
Uhhh, are you plugs wet? Are you sure your timing and ignition is aligned right? Do you have a timing light? They are great for making sure everything is aligned. If the timing marks are 90 or 180 degrees misaligned, change your plug wire configuration.
Good Luck

After talking with QuickRick over the phone, I found that my distributor was off. I wasn't 180 out but off enough that it would not start. Now I have another challenge before me. The engine has a loud knock wich sounds like it is coming from the top end. I looked inside the oil fill cap and the top end looks dry. I don't think my oil pump is working correctly. Once again this motor was completely rebuilt and had a new oil pump included. I put the pump on myself and am pretty sure I put it on correctly. Not a whole lot of ways to put it on. Any suggestions? I think I will pull the valve cover and see if I am gettting any oil up top and see if the gear for the oil pump shaft is turning. I hope this is the problem because I would hate to have to pull the motor again to take it back to the builder. Any help would be appreciated. The plan is to post pics once the project is up and running.
Thanks
Jeff

You have to prime the pump.
I think you will have to take it off to do this, but I'm not sure.
When the pump is off you should have filled the pump with oil then turned it by hand to get it started. It will help if you fill the filter with oil too.

I noticed that after I did my swap somehow it got a 180 out as well. Fix that drove it for a couple of weeks with that carb. Then the carb blew. Dont know why, just did. The middle solenoid was all black and the plastic coating was burnt off. So then put a EK1 carb and there, played with the vacume lines and got it to run great. The idle was a little high so we started playing with the carb. Then the head gasket blew. Although let me say this car with the swap is QUICK!!!! More than I expected anyway.

JeffR - you can sometimes prime the pump by taking off the oil filter and squirting oil into the holes you see with an oil can - gets oil down into the pump.
