Will this combination work? '82 EK1 + '77 EF 5-speed.

This has nothing to do with the subject, but i was looking thru some old Sport Compacts yesterday and the July 1998 Vol. 10 #7 has article on a imported city turbo II that a guy in San diego owns! :)

Yeah Justin, I have that issue. It also showed up on Ebay for sale about a year ago, I don't think it sold... way to expensive. Right hand drive too!

Sean, No it won't bolt on. Different crankshaft/flywheel bolt size.

Sean I think it will work if you use the 82EK clutch pack and flywheel.

Hello all......

I'm thinking of using an '81 or '82 EK1 in my '79 1200, and will likely be drilling and lightening a 1200 flywheel to accomodate a '79 cvcc 5 speed. Have any of you ever re-drilled the flywheel before? Should I weld up the previous holes or can I just leave them drilled? I would also like to know how a '79 accord clutch would stand up to 120 or so H.P. Also, are there any other motor mount mods needed other than shortening the torque rod? Also, how short (center to center) does the torque rod need to be? I found a shortened rod in an old parts car, but I don't know if the car had an EK in it or not, its motor was gone. ........Thanks all.......Eric....

I had the back of my 1300 flywheel refaced to fit an EL-1 crank, then had the holes drilled larger to fit the bolts. The clutch will be ok for most normal driving & occasional bracket racing, but if you make a practice of abusing it don't expect it to last long. A friend of mine uses a stock clutch in his '86 CRX SI with a B16 motor that does 13.8's. If you get a stronger clutch for this type of driving, remember the stress is just moving down the line to the trans, mounts & axles.

Thanks Dennis

So the bolts are just larger (14mm as opposed to 12mm I take it), not a different pattern? I think I will get them drilled larger then. I won't be abusing the car very much, just daily street driving with an ocassional autocross. I hope to get around 120 or so HP from the EK when I get through with it, just worried about the limits of the clutch. Anyone know where I can get larger jets for an accord carb? Or would I have to drill the ones in it out? Thanks all........Eric

If you really want to get crazy go to www.clutchnet.com they have heavier duty clutches for Civic's.

Thanks Dennis

I looked at the heavy duty clutches, they sound cool, but $$$. I'd like something with stronger springs, I have a 1st gen. accord clutch now and it's OK, but I'd like something with stiff springs that will work better with my short throw shifter (the shifter seems to work faster than the clutch). I take it that the 1200 flywheel will only have to be drilled for bigger bolts instead of drilled to a different pattern like I thought. I will be using a '79 5spd. trans. with an '81 or '82 EK1. ........Thanks again.......Eric
