Has anyone installed an aftermaket DIN sized radio into the dash of a 1st gen civic and had it sit flush with the dash? I'm not talking about below in the pocket but where the original radio resides. Just currious cuz I finally got one in there. Just could not handle AM only anymore.
Also, is there any company out there that makes rust repair panels for the 1st gen civic? No one aroud here does anymore.

Redline, I've put aftermarket radio's in the stock location, but i don't like the look of it(i trimmed out the opening and it goes almost from the heater all the way over into the steering colummn bezel) What i run in my wagon and convertible is hide-away units, they are both made by Alpine, the wagon display is in the rear view mirror(behind two way glass)the convertible has it in the left fresh air vent.

I was going to do exactly that, but after trying a few different radios I found one that JUST and I mean J U S T fit all together in the dash. I did not want to leave a non functional radio in the dash. I will post pics as soon as I can get a digital camera... Its a Pioneer unit. Would have prefered Alpine but this particular radio has a design thats a little unique allowing it to fit in the dash.

It's called a Micro Chassis, I use the same thing in my wagon for Am/Fm but it's made by Blaupunkt, I just picked up a Alpine Micro chassis for the Convertible. I'll take some pics for you to see.

I've put CD players in two of my Civics. I went with AIWA. The models I used aren't very deep so they fit flush against the dash. I also had to cut from the heater controls over to the steering column bezel to make them fit though. I used a Dremel (with a steady hand) to cut the old dash area out which left nice, straight, clean cuts. Having a modern radio/CD player surely makes a difference in the comfort of the car to me.

Here's some pics of the deck in Paul's car
It's a pioneer deh m400 controller. It's mounted behind (what used to be a stock deck)the eye for the remote is above the right knob, the right knob also controls the clock in the deck.
And also one of the new trunk(the center upper section is for the two 10" subs the lower ceteris the battery and the amps are on either side of the battery.
Here's a few picks of Twyla's Alpine deck in her convertible, it's in the driver's fresh air vent.
Here's a few pics of Jared's system, the lower rear seat is home to the subs and the upper has the amp rack recessed into it.
and lastly a few pic's of Paul's kick panels and Jared's
