Hi everyone. Yesterday, I went to take a look at a 79 cvcc with a 5 spd that I´ve been wanting to buy lately. Finally talked the owner into selling it and got a chance to sit in it. I found that the shifter is kind of strange-feeling in 1st and 2nd gears. The car wasn´t even running, but the gates seemed bent or something because they seemed to "lean" or move towards 3rd and 4th gear. Is this normal? Will this give me problems later on?

Worn shifter linkages if you ask me. Easily fixed.

Look for that gold tape with the tranny serial number on it up by the clutch cable bracket. It should correspond with the engine prefix (GD,GM,GF,GJ) It may be a swap and the linkage could be worn or even bent under there. Does it feel like a stick in a bucket of mudd? or does it feel like there are actually gates (also how many miles? is the clutch peddle pad still there?)
And if there is an 'ear' or mounting point on the tranny behind the starter on the tranny, it may be a transplant.

Thanks for the advise. I´m really busy to go look at it right now since I don´t have it at home, but I will scan every inch of it next weekend. There seem to be actual gates there, except for 1st and 2nd. the odometer says 65k miles, and the car seems to always have been in one piece. I´ve never actually touched the mechanical side of a car, so I´m learning as I go.
I just thought it could be a good car for that.
