Last Sunday I entered my 74 into the local autocross event for the first time. I have never pushed the car to it's limit so this was a great opportunity to test the car and my work done so far. To help me along, I decided to spike my fuel to give it more go. I added half gallon of 120 octane leaded racing fuel to 5 gallons of 92 octane already in the car for a combined octane level of 94.5 The engine seemed to like it.
My first run did no go so well as the engine died half way through. Got it started again before it came to a complete stop so I was able to finish the lap with a dismal time. Not sure really what happened. It ran fine the rest of the day with no problems and I turned in some respectable times for my category. As this was my second autocross event, and my first time with the 74, imporvements will hopefully appear during the season. Will begin to examine my fuel delivery and electrical systems for possible cause of the problem. It could be I emptied the weber bowls as the course had no straight-a-ways. Turn after turn of very hard left followed by very hard right. I got my 4 speed into second gear, but most other cars kept stayed in first. Nobody got over 25 miles per hour. Left foot braking was a huge advantage for most who knew how.
A guy named Mike approached me while I fiddled with my carb, waiting for run #2 and told me he has some old honda parts for sale from when he raced civics. He offered me thick front and rear sways, and a set of straight and true 13 inch Panasports (120 pcd) with German Fulda tires (my jaw dropped to the ground). Needless to say, I called him after the event and went over to his place after work yesterday to view the offer.
The wheels were perfect! They have some age to them but they appear to be in very good shape. The gold paint is coming off so I need to clean them up and re-seal and re-paint them. Anybody know how to do this? Should I take them to a shop, or is this a DIY project?
The Fulda tires are the Y-2000 model. Will pull these off and mount my BFG Comp TA R1's.
Anybody know a sure fire way of cleaning up alloys without harming the surface?

Which weber(s) are you running? The DGV series has a serious issue with sharp right hand turns. Especially long sweepers. I think it spills extra fuel over the float bowl into the air jets and/or chambers and you get too much fuel and bog. Level the car out and it takes off again.
Go to a Sidedraft setup and the problem is cured.
Panasports look fine with the paint stripped off completely. I sandblasted one of my sets and then put a layer of clear on them to protect. Still look good after 6 years at least.

Yep, its the 32/36 DGV, so would a partial cover of the bowl on the left side keep the fuel from sloshing over, or has this option been tried and found to be no good?
I would love a set of side drafts. Know of any for sale? Pocketbook is pretty tight, but I'll start saving for it.
Sandblasting sounds good.

There are people who will modify the DGV to make it more corner worthy.

Hey MDouglas what header do you have on your Civic?

Check out www.racetep.com
They say they can get rid of the DGV problems!

They can for 150.00. For the money, a 40 DCOE is in order. Must locate a intake manifold first.

Hey Ted, Have you been to the wreckers lately?
John Lemke is looking for a eb3 block or blocks. I am busy setting up shop right now (will give notice to my current employer today). So I will be slamed with things to do right now. He also has a sidedraft manifold. PS e-mail me, I had a computer problem and lost your e-mail adress.

Hey guys, I think I have the same problem with Weber DGV 32/36. It is hard to start and I have bad gas milage. I fill up one full tank and it only goes about 110 miles. Bad in gas milages. Do you know why?

kenche, adjust your carb following these directions:

check your float level too.

Dave,
On my 74 Civic racecar, that's a Mugen style header, tuned for high revs. My peak power (91 HP at the wheels) is around 7500 rpms. I didn't buy it new, so I can't say for sure where it came from. I can't remember, but I think another company made that same header. Starts with a B...
I run the cast iron JDM 4/2/1 RS exhaust manifold on my 79 Streetcar. Really like that setup.

do you still have tha 4-2-1 rs exhaust? or anyone for that matter>?
..would be nice with my RS dual sidedraft carbs!
