alright, i've got a problem. the radiator fan in my civic has begun occasionally making strange screaming noises. not realy high pitch, kinda low, but a scream is the best way i can describe it. this wouldn't bother me, but it occasionally blows a fuse too. unfortunately, i can't tell unless i'm using my windshield wipers and they shut off or i'm sitting idling a lot and the temp goes up. i don't always keep a good eye on it though, so i don't want to have the damn thing blow up on me. any ideas? should i just go try and find another fan motor? i don't know where to get one from a 1200, so if any other fans might do the trick i'd go for that.

I would venture a guess that the trips though the puddles have buggered the fan motor. Time to hit the wreckers.

I haven't really looked at the actual motor, but you may want to see if it comes apart. If it does, pull it apart and lubricate the bearings in it. Also, if it's "sticky", it will cause the motor to draw excessive current, and cause the fuse to blow. If you manage to get it open, also check the condition of the brushes.

my wipers on my 1998 Honda civic failed to park correctly. then with the wipers off (miss parked) they started wiping. i could not stop the wipers with the switch. i had regular and high speed wipers but no intermittant wipers when this happened. i had to pull the fuse. any ideas ?

It's probably a switch problem. Otherwise, check for loose or broken wires at the wiper motor. It's possible that something is loose and making random contacts at the motor, but my bet is the switch. Now, with any luck, there's no computers between the switch and the motor(you never know with these new cars). If that's the case, then all bets are off.

hey Joe, my name is rick wheeler, I used to work at a honda dealer.I'm now working at a acura dealer. I do remember a sevice bullitin on this. there is another component that shares the same ground. the problem lies in the fact that the ground is not securly fastned to the body, and the wipers come on when they want to (circut completed through other component) I still have all of the honda service bull. and I have to go back to work today and pickup my paycheck anyway, so I'll look for the info. Be patient, I'll post this evening with the answer.......Rick
