Looks sweet Rick!!

What size wheels are on the car, and how (and how much) did you drop the car?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By quikrick on Tuesday, March 28, 2000 - 05:58 pm:

The wheels are from a early ('78-'79?) Accord, they are 5x13. There are other wheels out there from early 80s Accords that will fit, but they have a different design (more vents), my personal opinion is that the later ones are ugly! I paid $15.00 ea. at a junkyard and a little bit of elbow grease and some steel wool... a fresh (original color is silver) coat of paint and HEY WADDA YOU KNOW, looks OK!
Now about the lowering... first of all I regret lowering it that much. It's been like that for about a year, It has a wicked bounce, I cut the stock springs.... lets say "quite a bit". I recently bought a whole new set of springs, wagon fronts and 1200 rears, I couldn't take it anymore. This time I am only cutting about 3 loops off. It looks pretty aggressive the way it sits now, but O-well. I get a lot of "Race Challanges" on the street. But I can't be racing every Tom, Dick and Datsun 510 all the time.
Like those "Special X" gauges? (thanks Steve) they came from Canada and I am in N. California. They were metric! So I just used the face from the speedo and the original body from my existing speedo, bought new plastic lenses and that came out pretty good too, too bad the image quality is poor.
Do I talk too much?
BYE

Is it just me or does everybody think the tach and speedo should also have the chrome rings to match the fuel and temp guages??

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By quikrick ( - 63.204.16.66) on Tuesday, March 28, 2000 - 06:10 pm:

I would prefer the chrome rings on the speedo and tach also, but I think it's too late to write a letter of complaint to Honda. hehehe

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Tim Harding (Timh) on Tuesday, March 28, 2000 - 06:45 pm:

What year crx did those seats come from? I'd love to get a set of those. I'm assuming the installation was pretty easy? I think my seats have more foam showing than fabric. Time to upgrade!
Oh, and I'd suggest using 1200 FRONT springs on the back. I think they're a little better match for the stiff wagon front springs. But guys, correct me if I'm wrong!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By quikrick on Tuesday, March 28, 2000 - 07:18 pm:

The seats are from...I think a 1986 CRXsi, if I am not mistaken it was the first year that Honda made an si. And it was NOT a simple bolt on, I had to make some brackets. I am glad to have a friend down the street who owns a metal fab shop, he said that I could go in any time after hours and use his stuff, including all the bar stock (scrap) that I need! Some of the guys here on the discussion board have done similar, I have all the drawings for my method if any body is interested. I may have done it the "hard way" but it is strong!

Hey Rick,
The other Accord wheels you mentioned with more vent holes look great with beauty rings. They are also 5.5" wide.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By quikrick ( - 63.204.16.66) on Wednesday, March 29, 2000 - 09:53 am:

Yeah, I own 2 '81 Accords, with those (more vents) wheels and I never bothered to check...5.5"? Maybe they arn't that ugly after all!! I did paint one set black and do have the trim rings on (Accord)... but I guess my Civic get all the attention. The Accords are like my "wicked step children".

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John S. ( - 208.188.193.155) on Friday, March 31, 2000 - 09:02 pm:

Actually, those 80-81 Accord wheels are only 5" wide, though if you measure from edge of rim to edge of rim it does appear to be 5.5". Those wheels had a nasty habit of bending in the center lug area if over torqued thus making them go out of round.
The wheels on quickrick's car are from a 79 Accord
which are much stronger than the 80-81's and do not tend to have the same problem...plus I personally think they look more like a "mag" type wheel...for the price they cannot be beat.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By quikrick on Saturday, April 01, 2000 - 05:39 pm:

Like I said before the later ones are... ugly.

I painted the "H" on the steering wheel and the "HONDA" on the glove box red. I think it makes my car go faster. ;)

Hey Todd,
I was browsing thru Matt's 1200 page and saw pictures of your '74 1200... Are those '80-'81 Accord steelies on your car? Well now, they look good on your car! I think that I will change my handle from quikrick to waffleman!!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Todd ( - 205.188.197.56) on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 - 12:30 pm:

Thanks Rick.
Those are the 80-81 rims and they came on the car when I bought it. I used to like the 79 wagon rims which are more similar to your rims. I like the 80-81 rims much better now and they are wider than the wagon rims. I have since acquired two sets of Enkeis so I no longer use them. Pity as I have a new set of center caps for them.
No need to be called waffleman. Its the beauty of our country that we can change our minds. Hell, I never liked the Accord alloys until I saw Jims car.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By quikrick on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 - 01:05 pm:

Are you talking about center caps for the alloys? If you are, lets talk about those center caps, as I have a full set of those six point alloys and only one center cap! Will you part with them? I am going to have the alloys refinished professionaly, I'll have the inside area painted black and the little outer rim polished out "ala porsche" trying to stay with a '70s look.
"Help, I'm stuck in the 70's and I can't get out"

What do you mean you're "stuck" in the seventies...who want's to get out?
Ever see the movie "Flashback". Dennis Hopper's last line was..."Once we get out of the 80's, the 90's are going to make the 60's look like the 50's." Me thinks he was just a decade early...we just now are leaving the 80's mentality, the 90's didn't exist.

How long have you had the roll-cage? I'd like some more details on it. The interior looks great!

You will not believe it... but I bought the roll bar from Todd for only $25.00!! It was a goofy flourescent orange when I got it (sorry Todd!) my friend has a paint shop and did the semi flat black. YES! that stuff did cost almost what I paid for the car over 10 years ago.
I only wish the car was as fast as it looks!

SHOOT-FAR! as they say down here. what a sweeet wagon! I've had 5 offers on my 76 wagon in the past month, now i'm not so sure i want to sell it. (about that rear axle, justin; they havn't got the car down from the 'wall' yet should be today or tomorrow. I have a set of Mitsubishi eclipse seats in mine (free, I didn't ask.....) Just took the sliders off the bottom of the stock seats and mounted them in thier original position and welded 2 straps to them. Then taking the now welded brackets off and wwelding them to the bottom of the 'flat' eclipse seats. just as easy as the 1st gen integra seats.

Qrick,
I have seen those wheels painted gold, black looks much better. I was thinking of bolting on some 13in Dayton wires on mine, with 175/50/13 tires. Would have to get adapters though, but I found a place that will custom make them for only $200. I dont think they would rub with the low pro tires either. Car looks great, but needs paint. While you are at it lose the moulding and pinstripes. Dont mind me, just my opinion.

NEEDS PAINT!! Yeah, notice that I take pictures from down low. You would laugh if you saw the top of the car. The good thing is that it needs only minor body work and has very little surface rust.
Hey, your opinion counts. The moulding, pinstripes and side markers will be gone when I paint it.

This was taken from my 2nd story office window, where I can gaze upon it all day. Maybe this view will motivate my to paint it.

I'm not even sure where that steering wheel is! I think it went away with my '74 1200 when I sold/traded it off. NO NO WAIT, I just remebered as I was sitting here typing, it's on my 76 wagon.
