My seven year old son, who likes to go by the nick name Kipper likes to see some of the things that are on the 1st Gen site. (a car nut in the making) He was asking me "where did all those messages come from anyway",and "are all their cars like our little red Honda" ? He thought it was really "cool" when I suggested that we make a discussion where everyone can just put in what Honda or Hondas they have and what part of the world they are from. So go ahead and humor us and please post a pic if you have it, the year and what part of the world you are in. By the way Kipper says thanks and so do I.

Hi Kipper,
I am in Northern California. The car is a 1979 Civic CVCC. This little Red monster has been cross country TWICE (with me in it!) Once from California to eastern Tennessee and once from California to Indiana!

Hi Kipper: I'm from Manitoba, your neighbour to the West, and I drive a 1978 CVCC which started out as my winter beater but, because it's so much fun to drive, is now my daily driver. (my '91 civic is garaged for now). It has a 1600 Accord engine, headers/exhaust & camshaft, and with a set of 6.5 inch rims and sticky tires, regularly gets FTD at our local autocross events. It has taken me on ski trips to the Rockies, and down miles of rough gravel roads to out of the way put-in points carrying an 18 ft. canoe, 2 - 200 lb. men, and all their gear (quite a sight to all the very large SUVs doing the same thing). Bet they didn't get 35 mpg, though! Good to see your interest in this hobby. There's a pic here:http://content.communities.msn.co.uk/isapi/fetch.dll?action=show_photo&ID_Community=WinnipegSportsCarClub&ID_Topic=23&ID_Message=217

Hey Kipper,
I'm also in northern California. The infamous "silicon Valley" to be exact. Here's the photo I have on my business card...
And here's a fantasy picture of what could be...
C'mon stock market! ;)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hi, Kipper
I have a '78 and a '76. they are the best cars I have ever owned. I have and have had other cars that ride better, go faster and are quieter but none that are so darn fun. I am in the process of swapping engines but it is slow going as I have a job and farm to run. My son likes cars too but is totally embarassed when I pick him up from school ( he is in grade 8 and a "cool" teenager) in the beat up 78.
We live in Black Creek BC. cheers
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Thanks so much for all the postings. My son Kipper as well as I are thrilled with the response. Just to let you know Kipper's fav pic is the one with the "clam" on the roof. Keep em comming. We have not had any one from anywhere but North America so far so we will be looking for other civics from around the world to add their pics and stuff to this topic. Oh and by the way I just apparently have stumbled across a 75 1200 in not bad cond. But MY not bad cond and HIS not bad cond may be two very dif. things as I have not yet seen the car. I am going to take a look at it this weekend I hope. Its just a Hundred bucks so it will make a great parts car at least.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey Charles when the civic gets that stretched look it takes the "cute" look away and really makes it look mean. Kinda reminds me of a VW Scirroco I used to have. Hey what do you do for a living that you could use that pic on your business card if you dont mind me asking?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
A question to the people from BC. Do you still see many 1st gens on the road still? Here in Ontario evey thing was totally rotted out ages ago unless you find one from the southern States that someone had brought up or one that has not been winter driven.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Dave and Kipper
There seem to be lots out here. i have two living within five blocks of me and regularly see another on the highway. Second Gens are all over the place ( good "student" cars)
cheers,
Nick

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Oh sorry Nikolaj I guess you are not from N America.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Dave there are quite a few first gens running around richmond, and in the surrounding areas,
Justin
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey Dave,
The stretched look is really just a chopped top. The rest is just a skirt job and reprofiling the wheel wells. Not a hard job if you think about it.
Funny you should mention a sh#t-rocket... I'm a mechanic at an independant VW shop. :) Check it out at www.bugformance.com
In fact, I'm finishing up a 16V-2.0L conversion into a S-bomb right now. The engines' fairly built, so it should go pretty well (I would have chosen much bigger cams though). He plans to "exercise" the car against newer Hondas (We call it "nip-erizing").
My business card is really just a personal way to give my phone number, email address and work number to people. The front has my "race team" name (Hampsters on Crack! racing) and picture, as well as the other info. I use these instead of the boring ones from the shop.

Hey nice to see everyone's pics and comments. Hey you the 14 year old.... I sure remember being that age and dying to get my lic. I was what you call a extremely spoiled child as my father owned a auto wreckers and I had tons around me as a kid. I personally owned 27 or 29 cars by the time I was 16.
Hey Charles I thought the pic was altered. That is excellent. Mean mean mean.
Hey Patrick we have chatted via email before and I still think your car is one of the nicest around! I like them all. It does not matter if it a rusty clunker or not I just like to see them (oh oh that looks like an addiction problem to me) I really like to see the work in progress shots that you guys have. Adrian has some great ones at his site.
It is far over do for me to put up some pics of my car but that will have to wait till next summer as it is tucked in the garage with all the junk. It still needs work too.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
It is an altered photo. It's still just a fantasy. However, I know what I did to the photo and it wouldn't take that much (if you can call a chopped top "not that much" :) ). Still, getting it that low and still having a "race-able" suspension is the hard part. Hence, the reason it's still a dream.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
We all need and have such a dream, it's what keeps us going to this board, and in my case, it keeps me alive here in this god-forsaken Europe, where nice car means new car means expensive new German TurboDiesel gotten by leasing it....!
I GET NO RESPECT, SOMETIMES NEED TO PUSH AND BUMP THEIR BEEMERS OFF THE LEFT LANE!!!
I really like the chopped-roof, and it doesn't seem that complicated to me: a good body shop and the money, is what you need.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
this message is to patrick asking where you came up with that super fly body kit
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Patrick ( the picture of the white civic)
Please tell us where you got that excellent looking body kit. Name the source if you can
cheers
Nick
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
King Motorsports in the US still can make them at a price of 800$ US. (that was the price last time I checked)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
$850.00 US with all fenders and bumpers
King Motorsports
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
You mean the fenders are one whole and you get them new?? The bumpers...you get them new??
Than it's a good price, I think..
Isn't there a bit less dramatic bodykit?
I think it's a little too much...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
You get two new fenders, two rear quarters, air dam and both bumpers. I just recently emailed them and asked them about the kit. That is the only kit that they have that I know of. Too "dramatic"? Darn I think it is great! As far as the price goes it is not cheap to get into Canada. By the time I get it home it is almost $2000.00 (dang that is alot of zeros}
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
TWO THAT WERE BECOME ONE THAT IS. This is my replacement '79 1200. I drove the original (inset: car on right) here in Iowa daily for over ten years, including trips to Ohio, Florida (Gulf and Atlantic coasts) and Minnesota. I have repaired or patched just about everything on the car to keep it on the road. It has traveled over 216k miles and has had three(!) engines. When the front cross-member (to which attaches the stabilizer-bar, radius-rods and center engine-mount) broke free from the car body last winter I knew rust had finally won, and it was time to start searching. I found this car in Florida where it had been stored in a shed for about six years until I towed it home. I was looking for an exact copy (trunk model) with no rust but this one has a hatch and some rust. Many parts were missing, broken, trashed, or just plain wrong. It has many dents and I was hesitant at first but while in Florida I found an almost-new genuine Honda shop manual for the '79 Civic 1200 at a flea market. All this in the same Florida town where a good friend lives so I figured the adventure must continue. According to the build-date it is two months older than my original car. It runs now and drives every day but there is still much more work to be done.

Hello,
I am from Lorain Ohio and here is my 1978 civic with some minor mods. Now it is being completely redone. http://home.collegeclub.com/JohnJacob1/index.html

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey Todd do you have any more pics of your Honda in progress? Lookin good!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I do have more pics, they're in the wrong format for posting here. I'll see what I can do about getting them switched over.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Its easy Todd just open the pic and then click on "file" then "save as".... a window will pop up and at the bottom it says "save as type" just select jpeg and save it in a new folder that you can refer back to. Easy huh?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
My connection was cutoff when I was trying to post the file! So here it goes again. My car will be painted in a black and blue scheme this year and completely setup for racing.

Hey Julian What wheels are they?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Those look like the old ROH 5-slot mags. Relatively common around here. The usual size is 12x5 and they have a big (outwards) offset (somewhere around 30mm, but I've never measured them so that's just a guess), though I have some with a lesser offset.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I've been looking for a set of those "jellybean" mags for my car forever. Who has a set they'd be willing to part with?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
This is a pic of the wheels on my car. ATS Mags. Do any of your guys have them on your car too?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Where are you Brian? There are loads of those mags in Oz. I've seen two sets in wrecker's yards in the last few weeks.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Where those wheels a dealer item from Honda? The ones on the blue honda that is.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey guys, just letting you know that you can't upload pictures over 40k in size. I've restricted it to this because I am running out of room on my website.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey Kipper,
I am in Denver, Colorado, USA. I have a 1975 Honda Civic 1200. It's silver. My friend in Ft. Collins (about 60 miles to the the north) has a 1975 Civic CVCC. His is orange. Merry Christmas!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Dave, those look like cheviot wheels to me.
Am I right julian?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey Andrew,
I am in the states... San Francisco, California area to be semi-exact. What do you think it would cost to grab a decent set of those and ship them up this way?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Wow, the Boss's wheels (on the blue civic) have made quite an impression I see . . .
By the way, I entered the text "The Boss's 74 Civic" thinking that it would be displayed as a caption - it in fact only shows up when you pass the mouse over the pic. I didn't intend to make it look as if the car was mine (I'm just the guy that keeps the car on the road!).
Can't really help with details on the wheels - they were on the car when we bought it about four years ago (one of the two reasons for selecting that car, after seeing 13 other 1st gen Civics - the other reason was the shiny blue paint, which has faded somewhat over the years).
They are 12", probably by 5", but unfortunately have no identifying marks.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
By the way Brian (or anyone else interested), The Boss says she'll part with her wheels for $3,000 (not sure if that includes shipping to the states).
Now, with the way the Aussie dollar is at the moment that might not be too bad - but I still think the wreckers Andrew was talking about may prove to be a better deal (but don't tell The Boss I said so!).
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
The wheels are made by "ATS" and hey Rich I am sorry about the huge pic. I have to get the hang on the sizes of what I am sending. If you want to you can Del it and I can send a small one or what ever. Ouch I would hate to see you run out of space.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Brian,
By the time postage was covered it wouldn't be worth your while having those wheels sent over, even with the current exchange rate. You're better off hunting around locally for something that will fit.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Dave, don't worry your picture was only 32K. My site won't let anybody upload anything over 40K anymore. I just wanted to let you guys know just in case you try and it doesn't let you.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
You guys are going to make me cry with all these cool 1st gens. I have a 79 that seems to be hopeless and i cant find anything in my area. A.W. Charlotte, N.C.
By the way Hi Kipper. Its great to see some one growing up in the age of sport compacts. Hope life treats you both well. Godspeed.

G'day Kipper
I'm from Adelaide South Australia our car is a 76 eb2 used for car club events and daily driver.
Most of the events i compete in are usually on dirt or in the mud.Our eldest daughter has just turned 12 and she will now be able to compete in some of the club events (Autokhana) and hopefully at our National Meeting at Easter this year.
I will be working in Northern California from the middle of February to the middle of March and would like to catch up with any of you guys.

Hey kipper my names becks and im from New Zealand. I owna 1976 Black Honda civic with 12 inch tridents, louvers and ramflo filtered. The wee beast was my project car for my mechanics degree so it kinda has a personal touch. Infact it was the machine that gained me top marks for my end of year studies
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Oh and the mags refered to with the blue honda are commonly called Tridents here in New Zealand and yes they r quite possibly 12x5. And they r available for most makes and models of cars nothin special to honda. Most common on ford cortinas here ( damn i said the F word ) sorry guys
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey guys. I live in Chico CA, and own a completely stock '79 Accord. I would like to find out about anything going on in Northern California, and possibly pick up a first gen civic if I can find a cheap one that needs work.

Hey Kipper, Hope you're still checking this even though it hasn't had anything new for months! My names mike and I've got 2 young boys who love my first gen civic as much as you love yours! It's a 1975 1500 cvcc and it's bright orange. It's a work in progress that's almost running(keep your fingers crossed for me!) I hope to have it exactly the way I want it within 2 years, but these things are expensive, and as I said, I have two kids! I hope to pass the car on to my oldest boy when he can drive, it's only 7 years away, and if a car can live for 26, it can live for seven more!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I bet by now Kipper has forgotten that we even started this thread. He will be thrilled when I show that it is still active and that more and more guys are replying to it. I will show him tommorow evening.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
What do you plan to make it look like Mike? Will it be sportsy looking? Will you make it go fast? Do you have a picture to send me. Dad will put in our email. How old are your kids? Do you live in Canada?
Kipper
ps Dad helped me type this
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Well kipper, my plans for the car are to put in a different engine, something from an older accord maybe, that will go it without too much work. I plan on re-doing the interior with seats from a newer civic or acura, I'm hoping to get leather seats, black or very dark blue with silver trim. The outside will be painted with a very dark blue and I am planning on stencilling a chinese dragon on each fender, crawling out of the wheel well and blowing fire down the side of the car. The dragons are going to be painted in either a bright silver or platinum color. It will be lowered by a small amount and have chrome wheels(not sure what kind yet) and performance tires on it. All of this work will be done by me, with the exception of the paint job, most likely done bay a body shop. Very far in the future, but a good dream. I'll try to get a picture to you, but I haven't taken any of the car yet. My boys are 5 and almost 9. I live in Portland Oregon which is south of Canada, but not by very much!

Ack, sorry... addendum to last message:
1975 Civic Hatchback 1200 (non-CVCC) with 4-speed manual transmission
Vynil seats, ugliest seatbelts ever, crap-brown paint with cream-of-crap-brown interior, AM-only radio
Purchased new from Majestic Motors in Burnaby, BC for $3000 Canadian, delivered May 23 1975. Spent its operational life from 1975 to late 1982 in city driving, road rally and ice racing.
As far as I know, it's 100% stock. A month or so after I get it running, I'll fix that. >:D
Back tires are currently off and propping up the back end of the car, brakes were taken off to be re-machined during a previous repair attempt in 1997.
Inspiration to re-start repair efforts came partly from my friend who details cars at Westwood Honda, and partly from reading this board.

Hehehe well here's the specs on my litte ride,
'78 Civic 1200, all stock, a metallic lookin blue paint job, and the odometer says 80 and some odd thousand miles but who knows how many it really could be!! Just got done replacing the #4 piston and the block, resealing head and oil pan gaskets and now i am working on replacing the alternator with a much larger one, lowering the car a few inches, and getting it repainted. I have also put an 800 watt amp and 2 12" MTX's in it and it does alright, i just put in a 400 watt inverter and strung red chili pepper lights around the inside of the car. It has become my fun little ride. lol
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey guys, I just picked up an old '79 1200 civic and I'm going to drop an '85 accord engine in it and tune it up here and there, I heard the swap was relatively easy. I've got some 13 inch aluminum mags for it, but damn it's hard finding low profile tires for a 13 inch wheel. I should have the mechanics done in a month or so and the body done in time for summer. I'll post pictures..... whenever I get around to it, right now it doesn't look pretty, but soon, my baby will fly!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Hey Justy Im in Coquitlam as well.....thinkin of sellin?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I like your Yellow civic Kenche It looks like new. Thank you for sending me pics you guys.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Selling my '75? Sorry, Puff. Before I can even think of selling it, I have to fix it up, then take it out for at least one ice race. Won't get it done in time for this winter, so that's Jan/Feb 2003. By then, well, it'll be MY Civic, so letting it go won't be an option.
